JP = you are the most tired and bitter thing around here lately - I may keel over the day you say something kind and positive about anything or anyone.

I'm NOT BLAMING Britney Spears...I'm merely using her as an example of someone who would likely be offered a stunt casting role to draw more box office returns.

PLEASE, can we just drop the Britney thing? Sheesh, I'm sorry I even used her name as an example. I certainly didn't call her any nasty names that I recall.

Let's move on...OK? You want a valid example...I'll give ya one: Melanie Griffith....there, are you happy now?

Here I thought I've been downright pleasant lately.

The only thing tired I see is the theater 'elite's' desperate clinging to an era long since passed.

We're having a great time here in the present, especially when we're looking to the future. Catch up, you might notice.

People were complaining about pop stars on Broadway - I'm saying if there were no mics, it wouldn't be a problem because they wouldn't be able to fill the theater vocally. And that's why years ago, before mics, there were true Broadway stars that people came to see who weren't famous from being on TV, film, or recordings - Broadway stars sold tickets back then. That's all. Not being "elite."

Rathnait - exactly - todays stars are not trained to vocally fill the house (when needed)...their talents are miniscule compared to the great singers of the past and a few left in the present. It says very bad things about the world today, when anyone with money and a microphone can get out there and make a million selling record, and be thought of as talented. Very sad indeed.

I know, RedHot - I'd pay to see Karen Ziemba triple-threating-it up any day before any pop stars - and I like and listen to pop music. But it can stay on my radio.

Hallelujah and Amen! Leave the stage to the people who trained and fought for their right to entertain in the way it should be done - with passion, intelligence, wit, honesty, and TALENT.

Those who try to defend the decision to change live theater by saying that we are living in the past are misguided.

I am the first to embrace and applaud new and exciting experimental theater...most of which has DIED in the past decade if you'll notice. All audiences want anymore is stale, rehashed or formulaeic shows with BIG names that couldn't reach the back of the house with their untrained voices if they really TRIED...and make more than most really skilled musical theater stars who have spent their lives perfecting their craft.

If you want to claim that Broadway is PROGRESSING by these developments, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, but I would compare it to saying that neurosurgery was progressing because we were letting first year medical students practice on patients.

Let the people who know how to do this DO WHAT THEY DO BEST. I don't call that old fashioned thinking, I call it common sense. If someone is better at the job than you are, they should GET the job.

I totally agree that it is a shame that actors are losing parts to pop stars who are probaby less deserving - HOWEVER, lets think about it. One actor is losing a job by being replaced by a celeb. Now if the celebs presence is extending the longeivity of the show just think abou how many jobs are actually being saved. Sure they probably don't deserve to get on broadway, but there are so many people who are there who DO deserve it and deserve to stay there. Maybe its just the lesser of 2 evils. Don't get me wrong, I wish this wasn't the case, but I'm just being realistic. And maybe they'll bring with them a new audience who will realize how wonderful bway is a learn to love and embrace it - and buy tickets - for many years to come!

Yes, yes, we know, it's their dreams to be on Broadway. But I used to dream that I was the queen of England. That's never going to happen. The same should happen to many other dreams.

You know it and you want it... you just can't believe you've got it.
