Sad but true - most collectors know which shows have come out on CD (even cases like KWAMINA where the CD is now out-of-print) and they will pay top $ for the CD but not the Lp.

On the the rarest show albums for many years was the Ann Southern TV cast of LADY IN THE DARK. It had a very short catalogue life in the mid-50s (it was deleted by 1960) and seems to have sold very few copies. Last summer it was released on CD by the British Sepia label.

The list of cast albums that have not been re-released on CD gets shorter every year. We're still waiting for ANYA and DONNYBROOK! and SAY, DARLING but even if the majors don't do these, as their overseas copywrites expire we'll see them on labels like Sepia and Prism.

If you don't have the patience to list and sell on E-bay (and given the lack of interest in Lp's now it is hardly worth your while) and you cannot interest used record stores (very few of them left that still sell LP's) try donating to Goodwill or Church sales. At least there is a chance some other budding "show queen" will find them and give them a home.

Cast albums are NOT "soundtracks."
Live theatre does not use a "soundtrack." If it did, it wouldn't be live theatre!

I host a weekly one-hour radio program featuring cast album selections as well as songs by cabaret, jazz and theatre artists. The program, FRONT ROW CENTRE is heard Sundays 9 to 10 am and also Saturdays from 8 to 9 am (eastern times) on www.proudfm.com
