Getting Rights to a Musical

I want to do a musical (that is currently on Broadway, and to which the rights have been released) in a 150-seat theater with an amateur student group. The actors won't be paid, and the tickets will be free. How much would cost to get the license to the musical?

I know it'll be more expensive than other, older musicals, but I'm trying to figure out a range....like, would it be $1000 or like $10,000??

You can call them and ask, or go through the process and back-out once you find out how much...

It would be more like $500-1000 depending on how many times u will be performing it (if ur doing a week long run my figures will be a little off). It might be a good idea to charge an admission fee if ur trying to come up with a way to cover that, even if it only like $5, very few people are cheap enough to bitch about that.

In general, you can plan on paying the following:

$500 for rental of materials (scripts, scores, orchestrations)

$400 deposit for those materials, which is refunded after you send them back

Royalties of approximately $1 per seat per performance (in your case, $150 per performance).

In other words, for a four performance run, you'd have to send about $1500 IN ADVANCE, and you'd get the $400 deposit back (which typicaly takes at least a month!).

Pleae be aware that BEAUTY AND THE BEAST has a ton of special regulations regarding, advertising, billing, costumes, etc. The Disney Corporaton is very picky about their property.
