re: Getting to Know You...

Real name: There are some that call me . . . Tim. But, in immortal words of the Ting Tings, that's not my name.

Gender: Male

Age: Younger than springtime. But, sadly, older than 25...

Place of origin: The South West

Current location: I have yet to escape re: Getting to Know You...

Theatrical medium of choice: That one where we all sit and watch people on stage. I really don't mind.

Favourite plays: A fantastic local production of Hamlet recently turned me on to Shakespeare (at last!). The History Boys, The Play What I Wrote, His Dark Materials, The Chalk Garden, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf. I need to see more...

Favourite playwrights: Edward Albee, Oscar Wilde and, increasingly, good old Shakespeare.

Favourite musicals: Les Mis, Witches of Eastwick, Our House, Light in the Piazza, Chess and pretty much every Sondheim show bar Bounce (or whatever it's called this week)

Favourite composers: Sondheim, Adam Guettel, Bernstein

Favourite performers (male): Philip Quast, Daniel Evans

Favourite performers (female): Emma Williams, Maria Freidman, Joanna Riding, Michelle Gomez, Felicity Jones

Favourite directors: I should really pay more attention to the bios in the programmes...

Favourite "other" (person): The MDs (who never get enough credit) - Jae Alexander, Gareth Valentine, Nick Davies, Kim Grigsby and all the rest.

First West End show: Into the Woods at the Pheonix. Followed the next year by Moby Dick! The grandparents had varying taste....

Most recent West End show: Zorro

First Broadway show: Dirty Rotten Scoundrels

Most recent Broadway show: The Light in the Piazza

First cast recording: Cats OLC highlights

Favourite cast recording: The Light in the Piazza or Sunday in the Park with George (Revival)

Currently mostly listening to: Candide, Chess (Swedish), Sweeney Todd OBC

Favourite films: Not really a big film buff, but I love the scores - The Hours (Philip Glass), Dario Marianelli, most John Williams, Danny Elfman, Ilan Eshkeri, Howard Shore.

Favourite TV shows: Dr Who, Green Wing, Black Books, Coupling, Spaced, Spooks, Peep Show, Mighty Boosh, Drop the Dead Donkey, Top Gear, Gavin & Stacey

Favourite music: Anything but Drum and Bass. And rap. And R'nB. And the '80s. And Kate sodding Nash.
I'm really liking the revival of 'proper bands' and you can't go wrong with a bit of Rachmaninoff. Also - Philip Glass, T Rex, David Bowie, Prokofiev, Jools Holland, Benny Goodman, The Beatles, Beethoven, Chopin, Madness...

Favourite books: The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, Jasper Fforde, Kate Atkinson, The Hours, Time Traveller's Wife, The Book Thief, Discworld series, Shadow of the Wind, his Dark Materials, Atonement, Alice in Wonderland, anything by Ishiguro and Murakami - I could go on and on....

Favourite things not already covered: Whiskers on mittens and kittens tied up with string, Stephen Fry, Douglas Adams, travelling round Europe, Apple products, Radio 4, Humphrey Littleton, the Internet

If you were an animal (or had a daemon/Patronus/insert other "animal from popular children's fantasy series" here), what would it be: Probably one of those that got horribly killed in The Animals of Farthing Wood. I'm still getting the nightmares...

What are you drinking: Squash. And coffee. Separately.

Ever trod the boards yourself: I have trodden under the boards as pit musician and MD, but have never felt the need to embarrass myself under lights in front of large numbers of people...

If you could travel back in time to see ONE show, what would it be: I know it's cheating, but any original Broadway Sondheim premiere, especially Company, Follies, Night Music or Sweeney.
