I was hoping to get some ideas to create a musical theatre gift basket to give to my niece as a birthday present. She is a huge musical theatre lover (thanks to me) and I think it would be special to have things included in the basket related to musicals. Her favorite being Hamilton.
Keep in mind she is a 16 year old girl so it does have to be appropriate. Please let me know if any of you have suggestions and also suggestions of where to buy the items.
Is she a performer? If so, you could include lozenges/cough drops, tea, or a recipe for a good sore throat remedy. And maybe some sheet music.
If she's just a fan, you could go really specific or really general depending on her interests. If you're going specific, there are windowcards, albums, coffee table books, other show memorabilia. I mean, Hamilton has a whole gift shop (unless it closed). You could also go with props or things that aren't sold by a particular show but are reminiscent of things from the show. Like a hat for My Fair Lady (especially if she's into cosplay or Halloween) or any kind of music box (not the one they sell) for Anastasia. Actually, speaking of Anastasia, depending on your price point, you could get her a necklace with a special inscription. I'd check out the Drama Book Shop or just your local Barnes and Noble for more general books if she's interested in theater or costuming. That might inspire her to do more research. I wish someone would do an update of Not Since Carrie but until that's written, it could be fun to look through. There are also Jen Tepper's books but even though I bought them I haven't really read them because the way they're organized makes it hard to get into any kind of rhythm. But they lots of anecdotes she might enjoy from more contemporary theater people. You could get her a Playbill binder. Signed stuff is also good if you have the time to stage door or go to a book or album signing.
Hamilton has a wealth of merchandise out there - maybe if she doesn't own the coffee table book, that'd be good for her. Other ideas: a cast album of a show she hasn't been able to see, a souvenir cup from a Broadway show, if you live in New York a Schmackary's gift card, signed playbills. A friend of mine got me a book to put ticket stubs in, which I loved and deemed very thoughtful.
