I read the Glass Menagerie and prepared a monologue from it for acting class (never got to acctually perform it for anyone but my parents, because I didn't have the lines down exactly as well as I'd have liked to show people). Has anyone ever SEEN it performed? How was it? I only have the images in my head of what I think the scenery and people are like.

I just saw a production of it at the Actors Theatre of Louisville. It was very well done, it was a very impressive staging of the piece. It was done in a black space with no wings or masking and everything was exposed and the actors moved all the set and would walk to prop tables on the sides of the space whenever they needed anything. There was also a large screen in the back and they had tons of projections and photos that they showed to represent what was going on and some of the important text would be written on projections and everything. I think if I had seen it in the usual way it is apparently always staged I would have been bored, but something about this really struck me and I enjoyed it.

I wrote a review for my theatre class on it. PM me if you want me to email you a copy. I got an A on it lol.

I read the play and I am so excited that it is coming to broadway!

"At the opening night party, they had clowns on stilts, jugglers, a chocolate fountain, popcorn, hot dogs. [My son] looked at me like I had been holding back. Like, 'This is what you do?' I had to tell him, 'No, no, darling. Opening nights don't usually look like this.' It's usually a dark bar with a bottle of vodka." ?Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's Jan Maxwell plus i proudly share the title of the shortest member over the age of 10 with wickedrentq!

It definitely was the best Tennessee Williams performed this summer at the Kennedy Center. I really enjoyed it. Although Amanda gets most of the attention, I think having a good daughter is even more important, someone who can wrench your heart out.

I saw an EXCELLENT production of it at Playmakers Rep. in Chapel Hill, NC.

It was incredibly beautiful, the set--realistic with a hint of exaggeration; not so bold that it drew attention but strong enough to where, when you noticed it, it made you remember--Tom's remembering it all, too.

I think it's a beautiful show and I want to see it so bad; Dallas Roberts (rent HOME AT THE END OF THE WORLD!!) is great; and Jessica Lange, I mean, there's no words to really describe her talent and grace--the perfect choice for Amanda.

I hope it does well...

Has Streetcar opened yet, with John C.? (sorry, new topic and all, buuut...thought i'd ask, since we're discussing Tennessee...)

I saw a community production in high school...I LOVE this play...I loved reading it and loved watching it onstage. It was a tiny theatre with the stage in the pit, and I think it works best in a small setting.

schmack: interesting that you saw it with projections. williams wrote projections into the play, but i imagine it is RARELY ever done that way.

I saw the original production with Laurette Taylor and Eddie Dowling and it remains one of the most indelible plays I have ever seen.
