If you really want to help the American theater, don't be an actress, dahling. Be an audience.....
Don't be taken in by the guff that critics are killing the theater. Commonly they sin on the side of enthusiasm. Too often they give their blessing to trash...

I gotta go see it. When I met Sarah Paulson for the first time she told me that when I saw the show I could come backstage afterwards. I can't refuse an offer like that.

Well the only thing I can say Im surprised about is that it lasted this long...the production was not good as hard as I tried to like it.

I too am surprised it held out as long as it did with its miserable numbers. I don't get why they couldn't hold out just another two weeks either.
Nothing precious, plain to see, don't make a fuss over me. Not loud, not soft, but somewhere inbetween. Say sorry, just let it be the word you mean.

Leveaux has done first-rate work in the past. His revivals of Jumpers, The Real Thing and Anna Christie were all outstanding. He just needs to pick his properties more carefully from now on.

As Margo said, Leveaux has done some extraordinary work in the past. His "Jumpers" will probably go down as the definitive production of that particular show, and his "Anna Christie" was beyond words. This, however, was just not the right show for him. However, I am glad I saw it, if for no other reason than Sarah Paulson's heartbreaking Laura.

This is a reason why I wished I lived in NY; to go see the plays like this and Virginia Woolf that are closing and probably giving good prices on tickets!!!!!!

Revisited the show this afternoon. They re-worked some scenes, it's a much faster pace, still not enough to salvage the production, but at least now the audience laughs at the appropriate moments.
Joey Collins was a much better Gentleman Caller than Josh Lucas was. The scene was finally about Laura, as opposed to about him. The dynamic was much better and his portrayal certainly deserves a viewing.
I still am not liking Lange in the role and Christian Slater needs a hook to come out and get him. He hams it up, gestures at the latecomers in the audience, absolutely inappopriate. He rushes his lines that you can barely hear him in all the mumbling.
Lange just tries too hard. But with all the empty seats in the house, you can just stretch out in a row and take a nap during her and Slater's scenes.

According to the Times yesterday, the producers said that the last two weeks of the run were "optional", and they decided not to exercise the option.
