Glenn Slater (Sister Act) and David Lindsay-Abaire (Shrek) share notes

Just watched the press launch video of Sister Act (http://www.sisteractthemusical.com/video/press-launch.php) and couldn't help but cringe when the phrase "Let Your Freak Flag Fly" appeared.

I realise that Shrek does not have a monopoly on the phrase, and I also understand that Sister Act and Shrek were in development around the same time, but I would've thought Glenn Slater would've realised that he used the same hook from what will likely become Shrek's most well known song.

Thoughts?

Sister Act originally premiered back in 2006 in California, so I suspect that Glenn Slater came up with his lyric first! From a quick Google, it seems the phrase is more common than I might have thought it was (never heard it before myself) in the States. It is a particularly unfortunate coincidence, though.

Just been listening to the Shrek broadcast here on the site - what a strange score, I hope the production is only that synthetic on CD as there's some really great songs in there that could probably benefit from a more orchestral sound rather than the weird pop/rock vibe some of the songs have. There's some nice lyrics in there, too.

Weren't they looking for a young unknown with a rock tenor to play Shrek originally? Not sure what to think of the rumour of the guy from Gavin and Stacey (James Horden, is it?) playing Shrek over here, can he sing?

The Sister Act stuff in that video seems pretty decent, very Alan Menken unsurprisingly but captures the right vibe. But like Ghost and Unchained Melody, surely everyone wants to see them do I Will Follow Him which they couldn't get the rights to?
