The last Culture Project production i saw was the brillant Sarah Jones in Bridge & Tunnel (transferring to Broadway this spring.) So I thought it near impossible for them to find another project that good. I was wrong. Belfast Blues stars Geraldine Hughes in an autobiographical look at growing up in war torn Belfast. WHERE did this talented woman suddenly appear from? Like Sarah Jones, Hughes is a chameleon, playing 24 characters ranging from her parents to friends and policemen. You would swear she's not alone on stage, so good are her various accents, tics and flourishes. One moment she's a smiling, skipping 12 yr old girl and the next a frightened IRA gunmen looking for shelter. It's mesmerizing. She also shows us the warmth and love that exist in the middle of a war zone. And there's a happy ending--Geraldine makes it out, studies at UCLA and becomes a successful actress/writer!
