Anyone have this cast recording? Is it worth the big price? Thoughts?
OMG -- the Steve Lawrence/Edie Gorme show!
Okay, it's not worth the big bucks. The only reason to have it now is for the camp value, of which there's not much.

If you are a serious collector, or plan to be, of course it is a must.
It is among the biggest 'trash' musicals of the 60s.
Its only money. How much is the asking price?

I like the story William Goldman tells in 'The Season' of this show being repeatedly worked and reworked as the creative team makes hundreds of little changes..and someone is asked "Is it getting any better?" to which they reply "That's the trouble with washing garbage....no matter how much you do, it's still garbage!"

Buy it.
It's worth twice that. I'm a Steve and Eydie fan anyway, but the score to this one is one of my favorites. It's just so...them. So...Vegas. :) Granted, I have no idea how musical theatre-worthy it is, but it makes for a fun listen.
Go to Steve & Edies website & you may be able to get it cheaper
They also have What Makes Sammy Run which was a better show & better score than Rainbow

If you can go a Museum of Televison and Radio you can see the Tony ceremony for the year of GOLDEN RAINBOW. The actual opening of the telecast is the opening of the show... all these showgirls come out on stage and neon signs descend from the flys and are brought in from the wings. Deliciously tacky!
Was waiting for this on one of Bway memorable moments DVD
It was indeed tacky, entertaining & catchy as I saw the show. I saw it a few times . one opening was a prospector walking in the desert & than voila Vegas comes on stage. That was dropped & they went right into 24 Hours A Day which was once called Golden Rainbow

$24 is not at all expensive for something like this. Years ago I had a friend transfer my LP to CD but it seems that when the commercial CD was released and sold on Steve and Eydie's web site that they were asking $25.I saw the show and thoroughly enjoyed it. A funny show based on a funny play (A Hole in the Head), with hummable songs, and a really great performance by Eydie Gorme. Too bad she didn't do more musicals. While I'm usually bothered by performers breaking up during a show, Lawrence and Gorme's losing control during a 2nd act production was a riot.
The breaking up was an act. They do the same schtick in their Vegas act
