I've seen the producers twice, once with Mathew and Nathan and the second time with Jason Alexander and Martin Short. Now while the original cast was still the best (though short in my opinion is slightly better than broderick), I began to think of what acting teams could make good max's and leo's. I thought of a few possible max's: ernie sabella and richard kind possibly, but i really cant think of any good leo's. who do you think would make a good team?
I think Chip Zien(the baker in the original cast of "Into The Woods") would make a good Leo. Also, he kinda looks like Gene Wilder with the hair-lol-the original Leo in the Producers movie. I think he would work well with Ernie Sabella.
...I know this is a little off of your topic, but...
I saw the Producers about 2 show after Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane left. Steven Webber was in the show at this time. I HATED the production!!! I didn't find it funny and I thought Weber was horrible!! I just saw the movie a few weeks ago and enjoyed it. Do you think the cast change ruined the show for me??
I didnt like the show either to tell you the truth. I think its tonys were not well deserved. I found 42nd street funnier. I think The Producers is very overrated.

...I have a secret crush on Roger Bart (SHH! Don't tell him!) and haven't seen him as Leo but I would imagine he was cute.
I've seen the show a number of times with every cast combination except Henry Goodman and the current Max and Leo. Nathan is unbeatable with Brad Oscar quite good. Jason Alexander grew on me and I ended up enjoying his take on Max. Matthew, in my opinion, can't be beat as Leo (and I also think he was the key to making Nathan's Max so good -- pure chemistry, the two of them!) with Roger Bart a close second. I strongly disliked Steven Weber as Leo and when Martin didn't go over the top, he was good. Both Steven and Martin made Leo too silly and confident. Leo might gain confidence, but he's still nebbish and timid. Gene Wilder played a great Leo, too. As to future,. Max and Leos, I can't think of any right now. Updated On: 7/1/03 at 03:33 AM
Steven Weber was decent the first part of the run but later on started to overact and it got very annoying.
my favorite was Brad O & Roger B. - next best to nathan and matthew .... they had that chemistry going which made a wonderful show!
Right! Steven was OK at the beginning of his run in the role (I just missed Matthew having seen him play the part five times) but a few months later, he played the part so corny and silly, as if he was one of the Marx Brothers!
I saw Steven Weber perform "I Wanna Be a Producer" on the 2002 Thanksgiving Day Parade and I thought he was stiff and tired as Leo. When I saw The Producers, it was with Brad Oscar and Jamie LaVerdiere as Max and Leo (Jamie was Steven's understudy). Jamie was very good as Leo; quite timid and shy, but cute, and he played off of the other actors very well.
Same here- I saw Jamie, too. I thought he was great. He'd be a good permanent Leo.

I'd love to see Eric McCormack as Leo. (sigh!)

A month ago, I saw The Producers with Lewis J. Stadlen and Don Stephenson. I thought it was very excellent, Stadlen's performance as Max was quite good I believe. He was very funny, his voice was kind of annoying at times, but overall I thought he was outstanding! Stephenson was absolutely hysterical! He looked a lot like Gene Wilder and sounded a little like Matthew Broderick! He was veyr funny and had full of energy as well! I was so happy to finally see the production, I hope that the plans for the movie are going well and I hope to see Nathan and Matthew play their parts!
