Hey All
Just got back from today matinee performance of Good Vibrations and after seeing the first preview I am happy to report they made some big changes with even more coming to make the show run smooth. David Larson & Kate Reinders were amazing. They both have wonderful voices and its a pleasure hearing them sing the music of the Beach Boys. All in All The Creative Team is working really hard with this show to make it perfect and after one week you can see that with work this show has alot of potential.

Financially supported the Vassar Series that included "Good Vibrations". It needs the coloreful costuming of "Mama Mia" and props,i.e. surface boards that look genuine (not like styrofoam at Vassar)-use composite material-and needs excellent lighting.
It should do better than "All Shook Up".
Hopefully Brian, a friend in an earlier life,is getting his "fair share" from the producers!

lol...a friend is involved with the show, and sounds like they've been having a couple of problems with those surfboards. I'm sure they'll get that worked out during previews. Anyway, the story that he told about the second preview was that it was actually David's (Larsen) board that got stuck requiring some crew help to fix it. JJM was the only one that stayed on stage to try to help distract the audience. Fun, fun, fun for sure.

Posted: 12/27/04 at 12:04amJeff could distract the audience by just standing downstage center and taking off his shirt. That could keep me occupied for HOURS I'm sure.

Actually Yankeefanny, I caught a preview of the show last week and found it to be quite endearing if not outright entertaining.
The concept "works" and as the previews continue I can see the "kinks" being smoothed out, is it West Side Story? Hells no!
But (and lemmie tell ya, this show has got some amazing butts-oops, I digress)the entire cast is winning and they manage the Beach Boys music with much success, "I Get Around" and "Be True To Your School(well sung by broadwayguy2 fav, John Jeffrey Martin)" deliver the expected high energy goods and the harmonies by the Surfer Guys on "Our Prayer" are quite lovely.
The book is fairly bubble gum, yet I "bought it", my major quibble is the current "ending", because at present there ain't one!
I also could not stop watching Sarah Glendening, she is a star in the waiting....ditto for Heath Calvert, this boy would be perfect if Les Miz was still running, but happily he lends a lil' darkness to the California sun of GV...the entire ensemble is well cast.
So, I had "Fun Fun Fun"....oh my Gawd, I should stop or people will start calling me TinyEddie-Toon2!

The Beach Boys' California sound was square and musically unimaginative when it originated in the 60's.
The idea of this show, abetted by the commercials I've heard so far, has me weeping for the soul of man and for the marvelous musical opportunities lost to enable this type of drivel to be presented on Broadway.

But Jose' it's Christmas and Christmas means caring...and there is lot's of near nudity, don't that count for nuttin anymore?
If only they had some kung-fu, THEN it would be amazing!

Aww, does that mean they cut Karate? Cuz I clearly remember a few surfer boys doing some kung-fo moves in slo-mo in the background.
Dare I ask for a clarification on the "musically unimaginative" comment? Are you only referring to when the Beach Boys first came out? Because I'll buy that, but after around, say, 1964...
Oh, and bwayguy, JJM already WAS shirtless. Heh, the look on his face watching those guys fight that surfboard was priceless. I think their success after ten minutes was probably the loudest applause of the show at that point. The audience seemed a lot more open and appreciative after that!
