Im currently going to be a freshman at NYU tisch for theatre this fall and my old high school director just emailed me about suggestions for next years musical. She wants a show that features mostly women leads, as the selection of good boy actors are sparce. can anyone reccommend anything?

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

Nine! Except the lead would have to be amazing. The Sound of Music is another good choice, and Gypsy is primarily women and girls as well.

Too bad it's a musical. The Women would be the ideal play, considering the whole show IS women. Nine is also a great idea because you only need one guy (well, two if you count Little Guido, and if you're doing it according to the original, you'll need a few more little boys), the question is will the show still be running when you have to do it, because then you won't be able to get the rights. You could even do Into the Woods, because the boy/girl lead ratio is pretty even.

Have you heard of a review called SIX WOMEN WITH BRAIN DEATH? It is an ensemble show based on Tabloid headlines. It may be a bit dated, I have not seen it for awhile, but I know the rights are available.

Chicago
Sweet Charity
Gypsy might be too provocative for a HS show

BwayTheatre11,
you have to start somewhere! I started designing sets and costumes in high school. I learned a lot there becasue I had an amzing teacher who had worked professionally and it gave me a great base to build on.

I did a production of The Wizard of Oz where the cast was mostly girls. Even the Lion and Tinman were girls.
