Here are a few songs that I would like to hear at an audition. You may notice they're mostly up in mood or tempo. For Pete's sake, remember those guys have been sitting there since last Tuesday listening to 160 songs a day. They need a laugh.

Ice Cream
Corner of the Sky
Anything from Secret Garden
I never do anything twice (not a show song, but still fun)
The boy from...
Barcelona
Live with someone you love (from the touring Martin Guerre - sorry that didn't make it to Broadway)
Out there ( Hunchback)
Poor Unfortunate Souls(Little Mermaid)
Crossword Puzzle ( maybe not...)
I Never Have Seen Snow
Sit Down You're rocking the boat ( amazing how it never fails to work unless you're really trying hard to screw up)
Nothing (ditto)
Almost anything by Maury Yeston goes down really well
Ditto Cy Coleman
Ditto Comden and Green.
Ditto Bernstein (though give Glitter and be Gay a rest , please ladies)

I could go on...just some thoughts.

The best song to sing for an audition is "Tomorrow" from ANNIE. lol

You're kidding right?

On the "you'll never work on Broadway if you audition with this song" list are:

Corner of the Sky
I Can Cook
What I Did For Love

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

You're right Gothampc. Forget Corner. The trouble is , there just aren't any good songs left that no-one knows - now there's another thread .

I'm leaving you ?

Explain to me how you can use Barcelona for an audition? I don't think there's a part where just one person sings, and it's not exactly up in mood or tempo.

I love Crossword Puzzle.

Rosencrantz: "Be happy - if you're not even HAPPY what's so good about surviving? We'll be all right. I suppose we just go on." - from Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead

How about 'The Money Tree' from Kander/Ebb show The Act?
Slower tempo, brilliant lyrics and get to show your vocal range a bit.

Barcelona - that was for a ventriloquist act - forgot to say that (PHEW!)

People don't seem to do many of the Merrily songs - apart of course from GOOD TIME GOING and NOT A DAY GOES BY , both of which (Sorry Steve) I find somewhat depressing. My faves are OLD FRIENDS and OUR TIME . Liza used to do a good version of the first .
I could mention too some British shows - The Hired Man by Howard Goodall has some lovely songs, as does JUST SO by Stiles and Drew, who are doing the new Mary Poppins. Going back a bit , there's the English composer Vivian Ellis from the forties/fifties. I worked with him a few years back on a show called SPREAD A LITTLE HAPPINESS, from his biggest hit.

And don't rule out Lloyd Webber. Song and Dance has a great number called THE LAST MAN IN MY LIFE, as does Aspects of Love with
THERE IS MORE TO LOVE . And SUNSET BOULEVARD isn't a bad song either.
