1) Grease is coming to my area in November this year. Does anyone know if it is going to be based on the original show or the revival show with the song "Since I Don't Have You."?
2) Fiddler on the Roof is coming to my area next May. Does anyone know if this is going to be based on the original show or the current revival?

Is this the Grease tour "starring Frankie Avalon"? Somehow that frightens me!! May we assume it is Equity?

Posted: 7/24/04 at 12:29pmI just saw the Grease tour in Nashville and yes it is a Non-Equity production and boy does it show. The cast is mostly made up of kids coming right out of college. You can see that they are giving it their all, but they just aren't seasoned enough actors to make it look and feel natural. The sets were quite minimal too and the orchestra had like 5 people in it. The one thing that did make that show great though (believe it or not was Frankie Avalon). The ONE song that he came out on "Beauty School Droppout" was quite the audience pleaser. I thought he would be all wornout and have nothing left in him, but he has such great stage presence. The audience went wild for him. After the show he gave a mini concert and sang some of his old hits.

Posted: 7/24/04 at 4:39pmI got an ad in the mail from the theater which is hosting the Grease tour this fall. In the Grease ad, there was a small graphic that said "starring Frankie Avalon!" and because they seemed to focus on that, I thought for a minute there that he was going to be playing Danny, Sandy's love interest. That would have been wrong. So is it the original show or the revival with "Since I Don't Have You"?

Posted: 7/24/04 at 5:41pmI saw the Grease tour in Houston back in September, and I totally agree with what rclocalz said. Frankie was the highlight, and it's a good thing because a large portion of the audience was clearly there to see him. I honestly don't remember if "Since I Don't Have You" was included, but they did include "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and "You're the One that I Want" from the movie, so it is not completely based on the original.
