definitely BLANKING on lines (it's happened to me) ... and singing a song in the wrong key (it's happened to me too) ... maybe it's why i haven't performed in years?

I am very afraid of my voice going crazy on me and I will mess up a song on stage.
Forgetting the first line is kinda scary too. After the first line though, the rest just comes out.
I never was really afraid of wardrobe problems until I ripped my dress on stage during Annie Get Your Gun after "Colonel Buffalo Bill" and I couldn't fix it until two scenes later.
I'm still kinda afraid of losing props. Its only happened during dress rehersals, but not during a show, thankfully

Posted: 1/16/05 at 1:43amFast costume changes are the devilllll. I had 5 of em doin The Wiz and it was mass chaos. In the revue I did this fall we had to change from Skid Row to All That Jazz in one song (Day By Day, which couldn't have been shorter if they tried). INSANE. Changing tights, shoes, leotard, skirt, hair, lipstick in the space the size of a closet with 14 other people doing the same thing. That was way stressful.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 1:46amI had to wear a toga onstage once; it was a quickchange, and there was this one time I had to go out onstage without having properly secured my toga. It was just a thread away from falling right off; all I had under there were my boxers. Luckily, I finished the scene without a hitch. THAT was scary.

Props that don't work when the action hinges on them..
Cigarette lighters that don't; corkscrews and crumbling corks; glasses that shatter as you're about to fill them...

I have this recurring nightmare where I'm putting on a show I've done in years passed. The problem is is that we are currently putting on the show, and without any rehearsal. So lines are forgotten, improvised, costumes are horrible, and there is no set. The audience is sold out, and the show is, as expected, horrible.
I can't count how many times I've had that nightmare.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 1:52amI had a dream once I was onstage but everything was moving in slow motion and I felt like I couldn't keep up with the rest of the cast and I dragged the whole show down. It was SO weird.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 2:17amMy fear is probably the set collapsing. I was in a show once when one of the actors didn't quite know the lines in the second act so the entire second act was basically improv for the entire cast. I t was good that he knew the basic meaning that was to come out in the line and the rest of us were able to work form there.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 2:49amThere was this one show where we had this HUGE wooden mural type thing in the back like scenery and during rehersal it tipped over right on top of this girl. She had this huge bruise on her head and I think she sprained her wrist. After that I wouldnt go near that prop.

That "La Cage" will close before I get to see it in May.
Or I'll get stuck behind that women with the big hair, bad perfume who sucks on hard candy with cellophane wrappers.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 1:53pmnecromancer, i have the same dream! freaky. I HATE fast costume changes ever since a dress rehearsal for the music man when the costume lady decided to sew a button onto my band uniform during my like 2 minute costume change, and i had to run down the aisle with my trombone, with my shirt unbuttoned with no hat, while everyone else was already playing. My fear got a little better though during Gypsy last year, when i had to change from my newsboy to my sailor uniform in like 30 seconds and i was one of the only newsboys NOT the leave the show with some costume change horror story. Singing by myself also scares me in the same way other people said before about being off key or the voice cracking. Because ive seen it happen to people before, and it would just make me want to die.

Posted: 1/16/05 at 2:03pmthe last show i did i didn't leave the stage the entire time. there was absolutely no place for me to leave if i needed to. of course, opening night i got the stomach flu and couldn't hold anything down and i can't tell you how every other insecurity i had about the show went out the window when you are trying your hardest not to throw up all over everyone for 2 hours. there were strategically placed trash cans hiding inside the set all over the place but it was still one of the scariest moments of my life.

haha, i know, right?
i guess either i have 'good luck' with this type of thing or i spend just a little bit too much time in shows, but actually my biggest fear as a child did happen onstage: in 7th grade i was doing a major production w/ an opera company and had a very expensive and elaborate dress with all kinds of petticoats and butt pillows and all kinds of crap. i don't want to get into too much detail but let me just say that i "became a woman" onstage. and in front of 3,000 people! worst experience ever :)
