Grey Gardens 3/10
Grey Gardens 3/10#1
Posted: 3/10/07 at 11:47pmOk, so I saw Grey Gardens because I had to see what all the fuss was about. Of course, the cast was amazing and Christine Ebersole deserves the tony. The set is amazing too, but for some reason I found myself bored for almost the whole show. The only entertaining parts to me were Hominy Grits, Daddy's Girl, and Another winter. I could see that the show was really good and I could appreciate that, but I was just BORED for almost the whole show. Did anyone else feel the same way? Like, they knew it was a good show structure wise but they were still bored? Am I the only one?

I certainly wasn't bored when I saw it. I was absolutely captivated. I saw it first on Tuesday night (3/6), then the Wednesday matinee. Both times, I found myself studying everything that I could. The whole show, to me, is fascinating. My mind was racing the entire time.
I agree that the cast is fantastic, and I was especially bowled over by Erin Davie. I mean, I knew that I would love Christine and Mary Louise, but having never heard Erin before, I wasn't sure what to expect. There was one point in Daddy's Girl where I had chills up my spine because the girl was just so good. Also, in the Wednesday matinée, something flew off the bed when Mary Louise threw her hat down, and the way she and Christine handled it was nothing short of brilliance. They both watched whatever it was roll across the stage, never missing a beat in the dialogue, then when Christine came back for Around The World, she went over to it, looked down, walked a few feet away, then came back and picked it up. As soon as she got to the part of the song where she talks about memorabilia, she started rolling whatever it was around in her hands and looking at it, as if all of that was supposed to happen.

Posted: 3/11/07 at 1:10amHave you seen the documentary? If you haven't, I could understand where you might be bored, and I strongly recommend checking it out and then seeing if the show interests you more. Personally, I'm fascinated by the Edies. After months of looking forward to it, I was finally able to see the show for the first time last week. I was anything but bored. I was completely in another place during "Will You?" and "Another Winter..." It was like nothing else I've ever experienced. I guess my point is--if you haven't seen the documentary, you should definitely give it a shot and see if it helps you get into the show.
