I'm not a "Grey Gardens" fan.
But that ad campaign is GENIUS. The photo with her and the hat? STUNNING.
I don't know who did it, but kudos to them.

I AM a Grey Gardens fan. And that ad campaign is genius. And stunning.
I do love SA's as well. Says a lot about the show and the colors pop.

If you've seen the documentary, you'll note there is an image in the film that shows Little Edie posed just like that. The resemblance is amazing!
(Although Christine is arguably more attractive than Edie was at that point in her life.)

Posted: 3/27/07 at 1:27pmWas the off-Broadway logo the one with the ratty-looking girl, the microphone, and the weird, rasnom-note-like lettering?

The off-Broadway GREY GARDENS logo is not the entire set of artwork that appears on the album - jus the lettering.
GREY GARDENS' Broadway logo and ad campaign is genius. SPRING AWAKENING's Broadway logo is better than it was off-Broadway, but it doesn't do ANYTHING for me.

I liked the idea of Spring Awakening's off-Broadway logo, with its juxtaposition of the girl and the microphone, but the execution was very creepy. The girl looked like the "wild child" those researchers found that had raised herself in the woods. The Broadway logo is an improvement, but it plays up the sex too heavily, in my opinion. There is no tension between 1890 and 2007, no hint of parental/youth conflict, no sense that this is a coming of age story in more ways than one. It's just those two hot bodies getting it on. So what? You can see that an effort was made to make it grainier so it would look older, but I don't buy it. I would have liked to see them go a step further.
Grey Gardens, on the other hand, is magnificent, iconic, and absolutely gorgeous.

Posted: 3/28/07 at 11:28amI agree Ourtime. I liked the Spring Awakening Off-Broadway logo because it at least gave you a sense that there was going to be some juxtaposition of time periods, which was intriguing and kind of made me want to see the show. The Broadway logo definitely stands out more due to the color, but it doesn't do anything for me otherwise. I think some more thought could have gone into making it just as intriguing as the Off-Broadway logo, but making it pop more as well.
