Grey Gardens, take 2

Posted: 4/1/07 at 7:59pmNo, I watched it very carefully last time to make sure. Christine exits before the set moves, probably about 30 seconds, to "go further into the house," though she continues to speak, and walks on as just before the exterior set parts. Mary Louise walks off with the set.

broadwaybaby-you're right. I've seen it ten times, mostly from the front row orchestra and that's what happens. It is her in the beginning. (I've seen it each time with Christine and have no plans to change that. She's made these two amazing women come to life for me.)
It's my obsession, as you can see.
I hope it campaigns to win the Tonys it should.
(musical, actress (PLEASE), featured actress, director, book, score, set and costume design, lighting design, orchestrations) (should win book, score (probably won't win that), actress, (knock on wood!) featured actress, costume design, director, and musical (could if it campaigns like Ave. Q-They need to be creative to show they want best musical and will make the most of it.)

Oh, I don't think you have to worry about Christine (or Mary Louise) not winning. The voters would have to be high while watching the show to see how good both performances are.
I would love for the score to win as well. I've been listening to the CD non-stop. Just for songs like "Jerry Likes My Corn", it should win. I love that song.

Duncan Sheik will get best score, I predict, for Spring Awakening. Doug Wright has a great shot at best book, though.
I only hope Christine's absences don't affect her Tony chances.
She's worked so hard for that Tony. And, gawd, no one else could have done what she has; immersed herself in the roles to the point where there is no more Christine on the stage, only Edith and Edie. Powerful stuff.

I'm glad you had such a great time! I can't wait to make trip #3 to see GG.
That is Christine in the prologue, she changes VERY quickly.
Oh, and Maureen is amazing.

Posted: 4/1/07 at 10:22pmThanks broadwaybaby and bwaygirl. Interesting. I wonder why they never show her face then.

She comments about it-doesn't want photographers snapping pictures of them. They are recluses, after all, seen as outsiders and freaks (alongside Elizabeth Taylor's drinking problem in the paper!).
That's always been my understanding of it.

Posted: 4/2/07 at 12:39amJust a quick note...The person you see at the beginning holding the mirror is Erin Davie. Her first act costume is covered by the Little Edie 1970s garb. It's Erin that has to do a quick change. Christine is speaking live but I promise it's Erin you see.

That is correct. It is Erin who is doing the
physical gestures and pacing of Little Edie;
Christine is offstage delivering the dialogue.

Posted: 4/2/07 at 1:21amI thought so because sometimes the gestures did not quite sinc with the dialogue.

Posted: 4/2/07 at 10:12amMe too, haha. I was pretty sure it was Christine. And then when I saw it with Maureen, I was positive it was her.
