You thought Rent was going to be a flop before it started rehearsals? You were aware of Rent before it started rehearsals? And Aida was a flop in its Atlanta tryout, when it was called Elaborate Lives.

not to mention a fantastic show THAT'S ORIGINAL (audience gasps) YES ORIGINAL!

Actually, I hate to say this but the show is based on a book called WICKED.

It is an original in the sense that it is a great idea but I read the book a couple years ago. It is a hoot, by the way. (The Book)

I've read the book too Jon and I know what the musical is about. Both are not one in the same. Yes the musical uses concepts from the book, but it is an entirely different story.

Buuuut since it is based on a book, it's technically...not original.

And last I understood, an out of town try out was just that; a try out to see what works and doesn't work in the show, including cast members. If they're booting out cast members out of town, then obviously it's because they weren't right for the roles they were cast for. But I doubt the recasting of the production will predict its outcome. From what I've seen in this thread, it's actually generating more excitement for the show.

"Apparantly, Robert Morse left the production because he didn't like being away from his family for the New York rehearsals and San Francisco run and didn't think he could handle the 12 months he would have to fulfill."

I'm thinking it had more to do with Stephen Schwartz opening admitting over a month ago that he wasn't happy with Morse's potrayal, that he wasn't planning on having Morse be a part of the NY company, and he was going another direction with the character in NY.
