Hey all, A community thetaer near me is auditioning for "Gross Indecency" I was wondering if anyone could tell me more about it than just it's about Oscer Wilde and his triles.

It's a fantastic script - and was brilliantly directed in it's off-broadway incarnation a few years back. It weaves in and out of his personal life and the actual trials and I believe most if not all of the dialogue is taken from his writings and letters and the manuscripts of the trials themselves - its a really beautiful piece of theatre.

"I don't really get the ending, all i can go with is when after several months,Judith saw Pat sang, and later she kissed him on the toilet, after that the story back to where Pat went down from the stage after he'd sung, and he went to the italian lady.I just don't get it,what Judith exatcly meant when he kissed Pat that she had seen, and did Pat end up together with The Italian Lady? Please help me,thank u very much!" Quote from someone on IMDB in reference to a movie he/she didn't understand. Such grammar!

I agree with redhot. I saw it in San Francisco before we moved, and we LOVED it

It is ridiculous to set a detective story in New York City. New York City is itself a detective story... AGATHA CHRISTIE, Life magazine, May 14, 1956

A terrific and very entertaining play, I also saw and enjoyed the off-Broadway production a few years back. And yes, all of the text comes from actual trial testimony, Wilde's letters and other writings from the time.

If you're thinking about auditioning there are several good roles for young men who play Oscar's "rent boys" as well as members of the court who convict him of gross indecency. There's also Lord Alfred Douglas you might consider. You should have a great time with it.
