Guys & Dolls Question
Guys & Dolls Question#1
Posted: 2/19/09 at 2:54pmIs Titus Burgess in a fat suit? It looks like it in the pictures or else his suit is just way too big for him. I hope they didn't pull the fat suit thing out when there are plenty of hefty actors that could and deserve to play that role if the director sees it that way.

Yes, he is.
And I agree, it's idiotic.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#2
Posted: 2/19/09 at 5:23pmYeah it's clearly a fat suit and it's an annoying distraction. Why does Nicely Nicely have to be fat? Because the orginal guy, Stubby Kaye, was fat? It has nothing to do with the character. There's a single reference in the show to his appetite - that's it.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#3
Posted: 2/19/09 at 5:23pmAm I the only one who doesn't think it's that bad-looking?
re: Guys & Dolls Question#4
Posted: 2/19/09 at 5:27pmI agree with you Piragua, It really does not look that bad...I just makes him look fuller.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#6
Posted: 2/19/09 at 5:33pmI think what the first few posters were saying that if they were going for the "fat guy" look, then they should have given the part to the many talented actors out there that fit that physical description. Alternatively, if they wanted Titus, then forget the fat suit. Why is it necessary. I don't think it's the look that they find annoying. It's the principle.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#7
Posted: 2/19/09 at 5:34pmOkay,it's not THAT annoying, agreed. But you notice it and you shouldn't. It makes his head slightly disproportionate to his body. No knock on his performance, I enjoyed him.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#8
Posted: 2/19/09 at 6:48pmthe only reference was when big jule called him a "big fat water buffalo" i think it was just before "sit down your rocking the boat". and your right he fat suit was a distraction.

i agree with you too...i feel he could perform the role without the fatsuit.
the show could do without oliver platt as nathan detriot.

re: Guys & Dolls Question#10
Posted: 2/19/09 at 7:46pmi dont think its that bad looking, but i do only know of one refrence to his size in the show.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#11
Posted: 2/19/09 at 8:11pmThat, and he tells Nathan that he had to get some groceries (he comes on stage with a bag full of food). Of course, anyone could do this. You don't have to be fat to make that work. I didn't think it was that distracting, but it could be removed.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#12
Posted: 2/19/09 at 9:12pmI've seen it done with a skinny man as Nicely Nicely. They changed the line about him being big to him being skinny.
re: Guys & Dolls Question#13
Posted: 2/19/09 at 9:41pmwe had a average body built not quite thin or fit but not fat for nathan detriot and same for nicely nicely which worked really well when i was in high school. i feel lauren will improve.
