Guys & Dolls/You're Welcome America Rush

So, I'm probably seeing a show on Saturday for the matinee, and I think it's going to be Guys and Dolls, or You're Welcome America. Here are my options:

Rush Guys and Dolls or You're Welcome America
Buy Rear Mezz seats for Guys and Dolls (You're Welcome has no seats available right now)

What show is "better" in your opinion doesn't matter. If the rush is too hard to bother with, which show has better "bang for the buck" (i.e. seat quality)? Or, do I have a good chance at the rush for either?

The rush seats at GUYS AND DOLLS are supposedly horrendous partial-view Orchestra seats. You would have an incredible view from the Rear Mezzanine, the way this production is designed.

YOU'RE WELCOME, AMERICA rush is best available. But even if you do end up in that Balcony, the view is fine. Far away, but a full view.

Bump - How difficult are the rushes?

I think Guys and Dolls is supposed to be pretty easy. They have a lot of seats.

I'm going to try it today. If there are empty seats toward the center will I be able to move? Will there be empty seats at a Wednesday matinee?

You're Welcome America is completely sold out. And I mean completely. The past couple of times I've been over there, they only had premiums available, and even those were being snapped up super fast.

I would say about 40% of the Orchestra at the Nederlander is partial-view for this production.

So they must be giving out rush tickets like candy.

Guys and Dolls rush is $25, correct?

And how "partial view" are they, really? Like, how much of what would I be missing?

$26.50

You'll be missing about 80% of the show, if you're lucky.

1. The theatre renovation didn't take into account making the stage viewable from A LOT of the seats.

2. The show is designed with projections on the back wall throughout the show that you completely miss even if you're even somewhat on the side (I was sitting in Left Orchestra, Row C, Seat 7 and missed about 25% of the projections, and that seat was full price).

3. There are three-dimensional columns that sit downstage left and right for a lot of the show that do even more of the job of blocking not only the projections, but the actors and additional three-dimensional set pieces.

Are they not still selling the standing room as rush seats?

Alright, looks like I might as well get a $60 ticket for Guys and Dolls. Row C of the rear mezz should be fine, right?

I was in row F seat 19 if I remember correctly, and I could only really see things that happened down stage center and stage left (including right into the wings). My boyfriend was next to me in seat 21 and saw even less because of the overhang of the box seats. In the beginning when that neon dice thing was there he could only see the bottom three dice.

So, definitely go for the mezz tickets if possible.

Absolutely. You're better off up in the Mezzanine, as there are big lit up signs above the proscenium that can only be viewed from the Mezzanine.

You're Welcome America updates anyone? I'm trying to figure out bus tickets for this weekend and it will be dependent on whether or not this rush is happening.

I don't see why they would stop selling SRO tickets. It's money for them, and the spaces are there to be filled.

I think everyone is better off buying the $50 rear mezz seats for Guys and Dolls. Rear mezz at the Nederlander is fine.

I'm a professional. Whenever something goes wrong on stage, I know how to handle it so no one ever remembers. I flash my %#$&. "Jayne just sat there while Gina flailed around the stage like an idiot."

That's what I'll be doing. Although they really end up $60, with Ticketmaster's goddamn fees.

I swear to god, why does the Nederlander Organization use them?

Today I got there at 10:45 and got Row G Seat 18 and I thought the seat was fine. Totally worth it.

I believe that the further back you are, the less obstructed it is. I'm thinking about rushing Guys and Dolls, so I'm wondering if they give out the closer rows first and if I should wait 'til closer to curtain to try to get a row further back (i.e. Row G or H and avoid Row A or B). Or can you request something farther back whenever you get there?

Yes, the farther back you are and the more toward the center you are the better. They sell the ones farther back first.

Oh, then I might as well try to get there earlier to get the better seats. Thanks for your help!

I am going to the city with four friends this Saturday and we are planning on doing Student Rush for Guys and Dolls. We are getting to the theater at 9 o'clock. Is this early enough to get good seats in the back? All I have been reading about the rush seats is about how bad they are and it is making my rather nervous because my friends do not know the show and hardly ever go to the theater. If we ask the box office to give us the best rush seats they have, will they grant us a favor? I know for Spring Awakening they liked it to go quickly with no time for questions.
