I know there have been a lot of rumors about Gypsy closing. Bt if those should happen to be true or not, I wonder who you all think would make good replacements for all the characters.
I also know there have been countless "Bernadette Replacement" threads, also, but this is for all of the characters- not only Mama Rose.
Rose: Bette Middler
Louise: Anna Hathaway
Herbie: Charles Shaughnessy
June: Laura Bell Bundy, although she seems quite busy nowadays.
Tulsa: Matt Cavenaugh
Mazzeppa: Linda Hart
Tessie Tura: Christine Ebersole
Electra: Anna McNeely
Yes, I know that these are the three strippers from the TV movie, but they were a riot together, and I would love to see them together on Broadway.
I love your choice of Anna Hathaway of Louise. She seems perfect for the role.

Personally I haven't heard anything about Gypsy closing...The show is not doing as well as Wicked or Mamma Mia is, but it is certainly doing average (and sometime a little above) John has just renewed his contract till Sept and most likely (don't hold me to this) But Bernadette and Tammy will possibly do the same!
I love Matt Cavenaugh to death, but David Burtka IS Tulsa.

Hopefully Bernadette will extend her contract. Even though the role's a difficult one to pull off 8 times a week, I think she's going to stay in the show as long as she can, health and voice wise. And when she does leave, the production should as well. I really disliked Bette Midler in TV movie as did Arthur Laurents, the power that be behind Gypsy. So, I do not see him allowing that to happen. Hopefully, they will close it when Bernadette leaves. She'd be a hell of a hard act to follow.
Besides, I just don't see it closing in the near future. I have a feeling it will at least be around 'til Fall or beyond. That is if Bernadette stays in it.

I don't think GYPSY is closing anytime soon...notice how popular this show is...everyone can't stop talking about it!!
Bernadette Peters keeps the show afloat, and I think she will for a couple more months - at least. Though I checked for tickets and mid March to mid April there are many available. Where as, before mid March and after mid April seats are limited. Maybe she's talking another vacation during mid March - mid April.
Tomorrow (Staturday) there's a sold out 8pm show. And seats are limited for the next couple months thru March.
Anyway, I just hope that this terror alert goes down and nothing happens, and things return back to normal. Lord knows we want things to be back to normal. The weather is really nice now, and we want to enjoy it without having to worry about the evil intentions of the less-civilized.

GYPSY played to almost sold out houses last summer. No doubt the producers will offer her the stars and moon to extend her contract through Labor Day to take advantage of the busy summer tourist season. Bernadette has a history of extending of her contracts in her shows. She played ANNIE GET YOUR GUN for 18 months and SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE for 9 months (she extended her 6-month contract even after Mandy Patinkin left the show). She was om SONG & DANCE for a year. She did not extend her 6-month contract in THE GOODBYE GIRL but who can blame her. Her original contract for INTO THE WOODS was for only 16 weeks but she played the Witch for 7 months leaving only because she had a film commitment.
