Gypsy Robe question.

Do they give out a gypsy robe for every new musical that opens, or is it an award given annually to one chorus member?

I don't think it's given one per every show upon it opening. I think they give it out when they see someone deserving... but I don't think it has to be a chorus member. Carmeny Ruby Floyd (Gary Coleman) of AVENUE Q got was the second recipient of one for the 03-04 season, and she certainly isn't considered part of the "chorus".

i read somewhere that it is given to the chorus member with the most credits. i think they have a new one each season and give it to one person in each show that opens that season.

Crazy4 has got it basically right. It's the person in the show who has the most Broadway credit, the resident "gypsy".
