Hi all. Okay, I was finally able to see Gypsy on Friday, and I have a couple questions about your reaction to two things in the ending. First, given the that entire production takes place in a sent containing pieces of a decaying theater, what significance is it that the decaying theatre is lifted away at the end of Rose's Turn? It seems inconsistent to me. And, what did everyone think of the final moment, with that Rose lettering dropping down again and Patti running around under it? Although I really enjoyed the show and loved what she did with Rose's Turn, this moment seemed not genuine to me for some reason and I wanted to know your reactions.

It shows what an amazing actress is when she is trying to reach for her name. I think the decaying theater symbolizes that they didn't have much success and performed in crappy spaces and they Rose is talking about what she would have been like, in a nice theater with much success
I could be completely wrong so don't bash me!
You may want to put a "Spoiler Alert" in the original post, musicalman2.
As for the ending, I thought it was a well acted moment on Patt's part. Just her, still begging for that dream. However, I kind of agree with some comments that it doesn't show Rose taking a journey. However, it was still chilling, and I can see it perfectly in my mind now that I write about it. She truly looks desperate.

The act of doing it for her kids is gone. This was her show. This was why it was on a stage within a stage... The false proscenium comes up to reveal the truth: "Why did I do it?... FOR ME!"
Just my two cents.
