We Need Volunteers!!
Plans are in the works for December 2 & 3 showings of the movie "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" in NYC and we are looking for interesterd people to form a shadow cast to lip sync on a stage, in costume, along with the movie (kinda like Rocky Horror). We also need people just to help with set up and help with costumes, make up, etc. The time has not yet been confirmed, but these will likely be midnight showings.
If you are interested, please contact me ASAP at:

Please put "Hedwig" in the subject line!!

Call me a traditionalist... but I prefer to watch the Hedwig movie just as it is. Leave the shadow-casting to the Rocky Horror people... Hedwig is not Rocky Horror.
But, good luck on your endeavor anyways.
I'll stay home and watch my DVD.
Sorry to be such a downer.....

I agree, with Mary, Hedwig is what it is and not RHPS. I was part of a Rocky cast for a long time here in the Bay Area, several casts actually. And some friends put on Hedwig once. It just didn't work.
Is anyone else DREADING when it starts happening to Rent?

Rocky Horror is a crappy movie that needs flashy gimmicks like shadow casting and throwing crap, to make it enjoyable.
Hedwig is one of the most brilliant movie musicals ever, and stands alone. It needs no help.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 11:51amFor me, Hedwig is a serious film. It speaks about the transgendered community and queerness in general, in a way no other film/theatre piece has been able to. I think a lot of people enjoy Hedwig, but just don't get its serious contribution to queer culture, and instead treat it as another drag show. Which it isn't.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 11:53amI couldn't agree more Bobby. RHPS is Crap, which is why I finally quit doing it. A lot of fun memories, but I definitely outgrew it. Hedwig is a BRILLIANT Show. Not one to mock in front of a movie screen.

I have seen it hundreds of times, and I still find new things about it that I didn't consider before. For me, it is one of the best films of all time.

Exactly. Rocky Horror is fun when you're young, but the materical is mostly crap. If I am going to enjoy it, I put on the superior revival recording.
I've tried to discuss Hewdig with so many queer people, and am amazed how many people cannot discuss its themes. FOr me, it is a powerful piece of queer cinema. For others its the second coming of Rocky Horror.

Yes, Shortbus could very well be another critical hit -- I'm sure its premise will get it some nice airtime -- especially from the right.

shhhhh...don't tell, but yes.
JCM's goal is for his audience to leave saying, "I laughed, I cried, I came."

Don't tell? He put out a casting notice on several gay sites for the film. I don't think it's that bit of a secret.

All the subtlety (yes there was subtlety), nuance and charm of Hedwig (the show) was lost onscreen in Hedwig (the movie.) I can't believe many of you saw John onstage and feel the screen version is just as good.
#15re: HEDWIG IS BACK!!!
Posted: 11/18/05 at 12:38pmHedwig onstage and Hedwig on screen are two different beasts. I try not to compare them, because they are so different. I enjoy both for different reasons.

I agree with Bobby.
Plus, if I were in the audience watching this movie, I wouldn't want to see wanna-be's onstage acting the thing out. Not only is that the gayest thing I have ever heard, but it would irritate me beyond belief.

Posted: 11/18/05 at 5:47pmSeen it, and it is irritating, not only is it a cheesy thing to do, because of all the costume changes in Hedwig (movie)when groups attempt to shadow it they have to have two Hedwigs, just to keep up. It is EXTREMELY Bad looking, and a horrible gimmick.
