Hey Carl Magnus. Chill out. You are what I like to call a cyber-bully. Someone who uses the anonymity of forums like these to spread their vitriol. Your opinion is noted. Leave Mimi alone. She obviously has a great love for the piece and a great determination to have it be seen. If she tries to drum up support for herself on websites, good for her. I would to if I put my own money into a production. The thing I hate the most about people like you is your pathetic arrogance. You imply that yours is the only opinion possible and that everyone else must therefore be stupid. Knock it off and do something more valuable with your time than pick at people more inspired than yourself. After all this person is actually doing something with her career while you sit wherever it is nasty people like you sit and judge. jerk.

I'd have to side with Carl on this one. Braden Chapman IS a terrible HEDWIG. No innocent theatre-goer should be subject to his god-awful portrayal. If you want to see someone popping out of their costume and butchering an otherwise fantastic score, then go see him claw his way through HEDWIG in Provincetown.

Mimi -

Just to extend on your "tour" fit... the Baci tour of HEDWIG... that is playing has closed in Norfolk, and is set to play Baltimore, Montreal, Detroit and another mid-west city at this point with more venues to be announced.

And if she'll say, "My darling, I'm yours!" I'll throw away my striped tie and my best pressed tweed, all I really need is the girl...

what what what........DETROIT? Oh god, this tour better be good. Michigan has yet to see a Hedwig - EVER - better be A+ quality...or the poor guy will be run out of town by rabid Hedheads! The original tour of the show was actually supposed to start in Detroit at The Second City in the summer of 2002 produced by Olympia entertainment (which is a HUGE HUGE HUGE production company) - but mysteriously was cancelled. There's been talks of several smaller companies producing this on their own for the Michigan premiere -- actually a little disappointed one of them didn't get to it first, before an outside production was toured in. Ah, well. Keep us informed!

OK. I just want to say this:

I am a difficult person to please. I do NOT worship at the altar of WICKED, PHANTOM, or RENT. I feel some of the best musical theatre scores ever written are FLOYD COLLINS, BARE, and HEDWIG. I have seen HEDWIG in NY (with Michael Cerveris), Seattle (with Nick Garrison), Pittsburgh (with Anthony Rapp). As I live in Baltimore, I also saw the closing night performance of HEDWIG with Jordan Siebert. The first closing night, before it came back due to popular demand and before he was slated to play the role in the production that people are talking about on this message board.

I am not a fan of local amateur Baltimore theatre. The armchair directors here usually put up shows that are shallow and show only the thinnest understanding of the scripts they are staging. They either amuse themselves with disjointed meaningless action or exhibit great bravado stating "I am one step away from a multi-million dollar Broadway contract because three local Podunk Gazettes loved my last two productions." The only reason I went to see HEDWIG here was to find out if the show could stand up in the face of all that.

All that said, I loved Jordan Siebert as HEDWIG! The production was badly directed, and the actors/musicians playing the band had characters as thin and transparent as plastic wrap. Jordan was the complete opposite. He showed a deep understanding of the character and made her pain real as well as sincere. Was he perfect and flawless? No. There were a few occassions where he fell into some false/shallow staginess that is a bad habit of many local wannabe actors. But those moments were rare and forgiveable since the core of his work was deep and well grounded.

And let's not forget his incredible voice! Jordan sang that score with an ease that made you think it was tailored for his voice. And his youth imbued the songs with a vocal clarity and daring that mirrored Hedwig's explosive spirit.

Jordan was not the be all-end-all of Hedwig's for me. But he was stunning and it is easy to see why Baltimore kept welcoming him back. He was so good in fact, that it wasn't until I was home and drifting off the Hedwig High that I realized Jordan and I had worked together in Children's theatre many years ago.

I have been able to find out very little about this recent tour of the show, but I will definitely be going to see it. How could I miss the opportunity to see Jordan reprise his role in a theatre better suited to the show, presumably after he's had time to grow in the role and presumably under the direction of a more capable director. And I highly recommend Jordan's performance to HEDWIG fans and virgins alike.

Hello to all. New to this group and actually I just joined to respond in this thread. There are a few things in here that seem to be confusing to other people. Definition of a tour, in my experience, is the same show or band playing in multiple cities and different times. So yes this would be a TOUR of Hedwig. Now while a show can be performed by different people in different cities that would indicate that it is indeed NOT a tour, as the definition above would clearly dictate.

I actually know the gentleman playing Hedwig quite well. Y'see he and I were roommates formerly and very good friends at that time. That time has passed and I really couldn't care less about him at all. I was pleased when I heard that a tour of his Hedwig was coming up because it is nice to see someone that we know doing well for themselves, and at the core, I am not that evil, plus it would get him out of my city for a while and I like that too. I noticed earlier in this thread that there was another bloke who likes to fancy himself a Hedwig. Went to his site, viewed his snippets (which by the way you may wanna check the legality on, copyright laws being what they are today.) and was clearly unimpressed. There is nothing good to be said about what is apparently something that someone would have to be proud of to put it on the world wide web. The band needed to tune their instruments (just FYI for any little snarky remarks, I play 27 instruments proficiently, including all those present on the stage at the time, have played professionally with the likes of Roger Daltry and the late great Ray Charles, so I do know a thing or two.), the sound guy needed to have his hearing aide checked and of course the saddest part of all was indeed the Hedwig. Intonation apparently not something he was on good terms with.

Oh I am indeed a cyber bully, as well as a real life bully. I look at this as just expanding my horizons.

Now I have many many personal issues with Jordan Siebert. Too many to count and too personal to get into here, and I will tell you this. Jordan is one of the most amazing Hedwig's that I have seen. And yes I've seen JCM too. This is a part that he was born to play. This is an experience that he needed to have.

Do not worry up there in Detroit, he is well worth the price of admission. You will not be disappointed.

Hell I REALLY do not like the boy, but I'll be damned and let someone knock his hustle because they are just not good enough to do what he does themselves.

Catty bitches....what ya gonna do?

I am involved with the "Hedwig" tour which recently played Norfolk (it is indeed a tour) starring Jordan Siebert, of whom the Baltimore City Paper said "he doesn't play Hedwig, he IS Hedwig." They were not overstating. I cannot imagine anyone nailing this part better than Jordan. This is the most dazzling, funny, edgy, daring, and heartbreaking show I've ever been involved with, and I would stay with it for years if I could. I hope it circles the world.

ugh.
i was painfully misunderstood in this thread. In NO means was I intending to knock was the Norfolk Tour folk were doing. What I meant to point out that this is not an "official" tour of hedwig. I didnt mean to imply that I was discrediting this tour. I deaply appologize for any confussion created.

I wish the best of luck to anyone who is willing to get out there and share hedwig's words with the world.

I had the opportunity to see Jordan as Hedwig in Norfolk a few weeks ago. Now I do love JCM, but this guy is just as good if not better!!! I know it is hard to believe but it is true. Being a musical theatre major in college currently, I was soo inspired by his work in this show. He put everything he had into the performance. It will be a performance I will remember years to come. I talked to him after the show and he was soo nice. He also said that he didnt have any educational theatre training. Boy, what a natural! If you can, see this tour!!!!! I dont think it sold very well in Norfolk. I think it will be playing Baltimore soon. Try and see it.
Best of luck, Jordan

I'm glad that people are at least giving credit where it is due. Jordan's performance is unbelievable, however I do have to say that I disagree with a few comments in earlier posts.

I disagree that the original Baltimore production was "poorly directed." I think quite the opposite in fact. The staging was smoothly executed, the piece molded into what it needed to be. Perhaps what some may have seen as poor direction was simply the lead actor's ability to improvise to great lengths, which I think actually helped the piece rather than hurt it.

I also disagree with the comments about the other actors in the Baltimore productions. WHile some of the band members were merely attention hogs who needed to stop I thought that Shelly Work's Yitzhak was nuanced, believable and emotionally complex. She was an integral part to the production and it saddens me that she was not chosen for the tour.

Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

LuvUrBatBoy...

Which band members were "merely attention hogs who needed to stop"?

And for the record, the tour is being directed by the same director of both Baltimore runs of the show.
