A female friend of mine is auditioning for a musical pantomime production of The Emporer's New Clothes at the local little theatre. She has very little familiarity with musicals but wants to get into theatre. I agreed to help her find an audition song but I know very little about good female auditions songs. I really only know which ones are overused... bah.
I don't know the extent of her voice. The highest I've ever heard her sing was a high E. I think she's an alto. If anyone could give me a few female songs that aren't overused, I will be very, very happy.

can she defy gravity, be popular, or realize that theres a fine, fine line between love and a waste of time?
*furrows brow in a vain attempt to understand the situation*
Uptempo suggestions:
"You've Got Possibilities" from Superman
"Dancing all the time" from Big
"Wherever He Ain't" from Mack and Mabel
Ballad Suggestions:
(some of these might be overused--I'm not sure)
Before I Gaze At You Again, or I Loved you Once In Silence from Camelot (I think the highest note in Before... is a high Eflat)
Most of the other Ballads I can think of right now might be too high....
If none of these suggestions work, let me know. I have a list of songs somewhere, I just can't find it right now.
always,

Which ones ARE overused?
I've been told essentially to avoid anything by ALW, Les Mis, or Disney.
Im Not At All In Love - Pajama Game

maybe something from thoroughly modern millie?
Monkey, another reason I chose to marry you. "Its not just the rack or the caboose. It's that big sexy brain of yours"(Family Guy again). I second that motion. It is really cute and it only goes up to a C. Can't go wrong with R&H.
"Hurry! It's Lovely Up Here!" from ON A CLEAR DAY
"What Makes Me Love Him" or "Go to Sleep, Whoever You Are" from APPLE TREE (cornering the Barbara Harris market)
"Sleepy Man" ROBBER BRIDEGROOM
(Unless experts here think any of the above, perhaps all, are overused.)
"BEST IN THE WORLD" from
A Day In Hollywood, A Night In The Ukraine

Wow. Thank you. :) This has really been a lot of help and I appreciate it very much.
You don't want an inexpirienced singer singing Defying Gravity. That's suicide.
