Maybe a group had bought tickets and the bus broke down and chaos ensued...
I went to the box office yesterday around 6pm and they told me I could either get rush seats because nobody showed up for the lottery or I could do standing room. I chose standing room because it's right there in the Orchastra and an incredible view of the stage.
I was a little dissapointed with it, though. I hadn't seen it since Marisa and Harvey left and a lot of the shows energy left with them. Michael McKean did a fine job, but you could tell he didn't want to do everything Harvey did and the sad fact is that most of the jokes worked because they were done a certain way. There were more than a few that just fell completely flat.
Also, Carly Jibson as Tracy really got on my nerves. I don't know who told her to use that voice, but she needs to stop. She sounds like a whining 5 year old girl doing a Jennifer Tilly impression with a Fargo, MN accent and/or a southern accent. They switched back and forth at any given time.
The rest of the cast was quite good for the most part. I was very pleasantly surprised to see Jackie Hoffman still there along with the incredible Mary Bond Davis who has changed the way she sings I KNOW WHERE I'VE BEEN and turned it into a much slower and sadder song. It really sounded beautiful and she is still just one of the sweetest people on earth.
All in all, the show is still a great time. The people standing around me had never seen it and absolutely loved it. But for those who know what it used to be, it was a little sad to see some of the magic gone.
I saw Micheal McKean's second show as Edna, and I thought he was just as great as Harvey. The audienced literally laughed for three minutes after he made the Jewish boy joke. Each time I have seen it, it has been almost packed. I agree that a bus probably had tickets to see it, but something happened. I was also annoyed with Carly Jibson's voice. She always changed between the screechy voice and a slight-belt during the songs which required more power.

To her defense, Carly is only nineteen, so maybe getting better comes with age. I saw her when she was on the tour and thought she was quite good, actually. She doesn't top Kathy Brier as Tracy, in my opinion, but she was decent.
I haven't seen the show since Kathy and Harvey left. It's a sad thing that a lot of the magic is apparently gone.

I saw Carly on tour and hated her...she went sooo slow in the opening number and for someother songs. It was reeeaaalllyyyy annoying

i thought the accent was a little distracting too, but only after my friend pointed it out to me. I think shes an amazing singer but sometimes when she screams her lines its jolting, which may or may not just be more true to the age shes playing?
I have a feeling it's just a limbo kind of time right now schools are just getting out and people are just getting into summer I'm sure the sales will pick up again with in the next few weeks.

~probably a tour bus.... like they said
~tempo. Talk to the conductor.. they usually hit it at a set tempo when automation is used that has to coincide with the music and hit on certain beats.
~ The audiece ATE up the jewish joke both times I have seen Michael.

I saw it last Wed. It Rocked!!!! The new Edna was very good. I saw the Tracy Understudy who IMO was a better singer than the original. Again, just my opinion.

Shannon Durig (the standby) or the divine Leslie Kritzer (the understudy)????
I saw the show two weeks ago, and it was full. As citi79boy said, "it was only one show". I don't think Hairspray has anything to worry about.
Unless Carly is doing something different now, I thought she was phenomenal on tour. I've seen 3 different Tracy's and I thought she was the best. I was disappointed because when I saw it on Broadway again in April, Kathy happened to be out that evening and Shannon was on (who I didn't like at all).

When I saw it the mez was totally empty. We got lottery tickets but they moved us up to the front of the mez. This was when Harvey was still there though.
I really want to see Shannon in it though. She's a friend of mine and I'm sure she is great!
Yeah, I saw it Saturday night, also. There was no tearing off of any roof, sorry to tell you.
Matt_G- I hear a review coming...
