Hairspray OBCR question...

i have a quick question about the Hairspray OBCR...

why are 'Baltimore Crabs' and 'Cooties' longer in length on the cd? a lot of both songs is not in the show. i've wondered this for a while now, and am just now getting around to posting it.

thanks!

re: Hairspray OBCR question...

good question- also, has anyone ever noticed the unlisted track tacked onto the last track on the cd? it starts after a few second delay- its truly bizarre but great fun!

re: Hairspray OBCR question...

Just one of the many small changes made between the Seattle run, NY previews, and the opening. Additional small orchestration and arrangement changes were made to the Bway production shortly after the 1st national tour went out.

the hidden track was dropped from the show, but they still included it at the end

re: Hairspray OBCR question...

there was such a huge hype around the show while it was still in seattle previews. So in the time from them moving from previews to new york they recorded the cast recording so the release date coincided with the opening to keep the hype up for the show. as a result, changes were still being made and were not reflected on the cast recording but were in the final cut of the show. make sense?

re: Hairspray OBCR question...

Granted, Ive only seen Hairspray with the original cast, I recall only minor changes in both of these songs. The only changes I noted in Miss Baltimore Crabs were instead of what's on the CD, Velma says "While belting Aida and preparing Cheese Souffles!"

If both songs have been shortened, does anyone know if these are recent changes?
Yes that's me. No, it's not a Rent homage.

no, they aren't. you're right though, the changes are very small and minor such as the lyric change you mentioned. you really would hardly notice them if you didn't listen to the OBCR and compare the two.
