Posted: 1/4/05 at 10:33pmI don't mean to be anal, but Acting isn't a Sport, therefore they are Auditions not Try-outs.

No, renthead.
They are definetely called "Out-of-Town Tryouts"
Auditions are something else entirely.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

Posted: 1/4/05 at 10:43pmI saw the Seattle world premiere of Hairspray. I also saw it when I went to New York in April. The show hardly changed at all. The only major cut/change that I can remember is that they cut "Blood On The Pavement," which is still available as a bonus track on the OBC recording. When it opened in Seattle, it was essentially flawless. The only thing that was critiqued was the attempt at some seriousness with "I Know Where I've Been." While it's a great song, and a somewhat of a showstopper, it goes against most of the rest of the plot and tries to preach a message. But nothing really was changed. The set was expanded a bit.

Yea, Swifty was referring to the pre-BWAY tryout of Hairspray, not auditions.
:)

Posted: 1/4/05 at 10:59pmI have a friend who works at a really big West Coast theater, and she always says that if anyone leaves her a message and says, "I'd like to try out," she doesn't call them back. If they say, "I'd like to audition," she'll call them whenever she gets around to it.. And if they say, "I'd like to be seen," she calls them immediately and schedules an audition. That's a good lesson.
