nobody of the slightest importance crapped on this film. The three who did are nobodies who are desperately trying to stand out in a crowd. Sad.

Ebert's review just got posted. He loved it. Three and 1/2 stars.

Does anyone else prefer Metacritic over Rotten tomatoes?
Rotten Tomatoes is so black/white and Metacritic tries to gauge the films by how much or how little the reviewers liked the film rather than whether or not they liked it.

It now has 94 reviews (about half of the reviews are in) and only six are rotten. Now has a 94% rating. That'll probably be where the rating will remain after all the reviews are in. 94% is really good.
On my blog, I did a very un-scientific survey on this. HAIRSPRAY got the highest freshness of any of the crop of recent musicals. That bodes well.

The latest review, the one that brought it back down to 94%, doesn't even like Nikki Blonsky.

i saw the movie today and....
i wished that penny was more quirky like she was meant to be...
i wished that john travolta just played it up and didn't try to BE a woman, that wasn't the point
it was GOOD...but i don't know i just really liked the stage version more. personally
