Not that I mind... I would ;ove to see Harvey play 'Edna' again. BUt I do have to ask... Why the sudden boom of Broadway to Movie? Blah.

Why not? It allows an audience who normally wouldn't travel to New York to see a show, or to their local major city that would carry SOME shows - be able to enjoy these wonderful shows that they normally wouldn't see.

And HAIRSPRAY is an excellent show that works on stage as well as on film.

By the way - it was a movie before it was a Broadway hit.

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

One may also ask, why the sudden boom of movie to Broadway? "Blah."

THE PRODUCERS
HAIRSPRAY
CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG
42nd STREET
THE LION KING
BEAUTY AND THE BEAST
MARY POPPINS
TARZAN
SPAMALOT
WICKED (not really)

All were movies first.

has this been officially announced? I've been out of the loop lately. Did they just say they want to make a movie, or have they announced cast members and everything?

There has been a lot of discussion on this board about "Hairspray". Some about if the move will take place and most about who people would like to see in the various roles. Here are a few links where discussions have taken place:

Movie is DEFINITELY in the works. All in initial development. Producers want Harvey.

The producers of CHICAGO have been brought on board to oversee the production. I believe I read the original director and choreographer from the stage show are reprising their duties on the film as well.

Here is the link, yet again, to some information about the movie. Matt_G posted it in the first link that a posted in this thread two posts ago.

I saw Hairspray with the original cast, and loved it.
I would really enjoy seeing Justin Guarini as Link in the Hairspray movie musical. He sings, he dances he can do comedy and nobody does heart throb like Justin!

Justin is biracial actually . He actually has very smooth light skin that looks like he just has a little bit of a tan. He is an exceptionally handsome guy.

no, he does NOT look like he has just a tan. You can tell that is not white.

1). Justin is ug and can't sing!

2). Hairspray (the musical) as a movie is a BAD idea because the existing movie Hairspray is WAY better than the musical.

I saw Hairspray in Seattle, and I wasn't impressed. Just not my cup of tea!

We will take that with a grain of salt as you have just joined.

But thanks for your opinion

Well, TheatreDiva90016, maybe I wouldn't be such an opinionated B if a cute boy was licking my ear. :)

I think that was the most arrogant thing I've heard all day. If MargoChanning just joined and said the same thing, would you have said the same thing? Not to mention, it was an opinion, and can you really take an opinion with a grain of salt? So I take it no one can not like Hairspray. Right.

PleaseChangeMe, I don't think he was serious. I took it as a joke anyway.

Loge, I agree, Justin is ugly. Sorry people. But he *might* be able to sing it, I am not sure. Definitely not as good as Matt Morrison or Richard Blake.

Why "blah"? I am thrilled that the musicals - Producers, Hairspray, Chicago, Rent, for example - are going to be (or in Chicago's case, already are) musical movies. First of all, I loved the Producers, but never saw Nathan and Matt in it, so it will be a real treat, in my opinion, for those who didn't see them. Though it is funny that all of a sudden all these musicals will be made into movies.
