I just saw a wonderful off-Broadway play at the Players Theatre called ONE NATION ONE MISSION ONE PROMSE that is currently a part of the 20at20 program. I was wondering if anyone else has seen it and what their thoughts are. The show is kind of like Ragtime in a sense, and sort of like 1776 without the music, and sort of like Hamilton, but without the music and the fanfare. The play, which does have music and singing at times, is kind of like a historical "revue" of influential events and people in America's history. There are actors who portray George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Luther King, but there are also characters who portray lesser known people like Clara Barton and Elizabeth Cody Stanton, the women's suffrage advocate. There are even some contemporary people like Ellen DeGeneres and Oprah intertwined. There are several breathtaking scenes where lines from the Declaration of Independence, JFK's inaugural address are read, and they are intertwined with themes and struggles that our county has gone through since. There's even one super scene where Jefferson, Elizabeth Cody Stanton, and Martin Luther King are fictionally meeting together, discussing the evils of slavery/injustice in the U.S., criticizing Jefferson and the Fathers for not doing enough to thwart slavery in the Revolutionary era. It's kind of hard to explain all this, but the acting and staging is something else, and one doesn't necessarily have to be a history buff to appreciate all this. All I know is that I walked out feeling inspired. I guess kind of like how I've walked out of Hamilton feeling inspired - but of course without the music or the fanfare or hype or revolving turntable, etc. I was wondering if anyone else has seen it and what their thoughts are.
