Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

Decided to start a new thread - I have been trying to get information on the dates that Hank Azaria will be out of Spamalot to film his Showtime series "Huff".

Anyone have any info on the dates? I am seeing the show June 18th regardless, but would like to know.

re: Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

OK - someone had to have seen Letterman on 4/26. I fell asleep just before Hank Azaria came on as a guest. Did he say when he was leaving the show to film Huff?

ANY HELP????

re: Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

He was very funny, charming..and said, he'd be leaving in June (assume after the Tonys) and returning around Thanksgiving. Nothing more specific than that.

Wow until Thanksgiving. Are you sure that is correct, seems like a very long time. I thought I had read a month or 2. I have tickets tony day, so hopefully the entire cast will be intact.

I wonder who will be replacing him. That's rough - gone all summer!

re: Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

The bad thing of this... I KNOW I won't get to see him (tickets for June 28th... *sigh*). The good thing however is that he's given the creative team PLENTY of advance warning to find a replacement. I'd be surprised if they're not persuing a "big name" to fill the gap. Especially since he's going to be gone for 4-5 months!

Actually, I would be surprised if the got a "name". A "name" would want to originate a part, not take over. Aren't the characters Hank plays somewhat obscured by the costumes? So it wouldn;t matter..

re: Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

I just hope that whoever they get to replace Hank, whether a "name" or not, realizes it's very much an ensemble show. I cringed when I read the rumors about Robin Williams...not because I don't think Robin Williams could do a good job, but more because I can't see him melting into the ensemble. It would become "Robin Williams' Spamalot", which would throw the show out of balance and be a gross disservice to the other talented people on that stage. It's one thing if a show is designed as a vehicle for a particular actor; "Spamalot" very much is not.

re: Hank Azaria Departure Dates????

Well, it IS a unique situation... regardless of the love/hate relationship audiences (and people on this board, I see) have with this show, there are lots of actors who would jump at the chance to star in a Monty Python musical. And I'm willing to bet several of those are "names." Whether the producers go that route or not, I really don't know. And wouldn't much care either way. I'll still enjoy myself.

And as far as concealed behind costumes goes... I thought that was more the comment about Christopher Sieber's myriad of roles? Certainly Azaria is prominant enough as Lancelot. *scratches head*

"big names" take over roles all the time. Just look at Brooke Shields...
