HES NOT A ACTOR HES A SINGER, AND KELI IS AMAZING, GOING FROM A HIGH SOPRANO ROLE TO BELTING IN A FULL CHEST VOICE THATS TALENT AND RANGE PEOPLE SHES EXTREMELY VERSATILE THE ONLY REASON THOUGH THAT BROADWAY IS TURNING INTO SOMETHING WHERE PEOPLE WILL ONLY BUY TICKETS FOR NAMES
WHAT HAPPENED TO THE TRUE TALENT, ITS ALL OVER THE PLACE , UNDERSTUDIES ARE USUALLY SOMETIMES BETTER THAN THE LEADS , REALLTY THE LEADS ARE BIG NAMES I JUST DONT LIKE HOW PEOPLE ONLY WANT TO SEE A SPECTACLE NOW INSTEAD OF REAL THEATRE , THATS WHERE IT ALLLLLLLL CAME FROM
REALL THEATRE IS SOMETHING WITH A PLOT,STORY,GREAT BOOK(SCRIPT BUT FOR MUSICALS) SWEENEY TODD THATS REAL THEATRE RIGHT THERE PEOPLE
AND IF YOU WANT A TASTE OF SHOWS IN BERTOLT BRECHT STYLE, GO SPEND YOURE MONEY ON THREEPENNY OPERA, IF YOU KNOW WHAT BRECHT IS
OR JUST GO SEE PAJAMA GAME AND WATCH A MEDIOCORE JAZZ SINGER TRY TO ACT, AND SHOW OFF BY PLAYING THE PIANO
EVER HEARD OF OFF BROADWAY, OR REGIONAL THEATRE, HOW ABOUT STEPPENWOLFE IN CHICAGO , REALLY IT TAKES A LOT BEFORE YOU GO TO BROADWAY , YOU HAVE TO DO A LOT, THOUGH SOME PEOPLE ARE LUCKY BUT NOT ALL
MAJOR STRUGGLE AND A LOT OF PEOPLE OTHER THAN HARRY SHOULDVE GOTTEN THAT ROLE
"what? what is it? do i have something in my teeth? ok lets get this over with : no im not seasick, yes ive always been green, and no i didnt chew grass as a child "
Kelly O'Hara is great! To pull a switch like that is awesome. HCJ I love to death but, he isn't the best actor ,but from what I've seen he places a great place between the three (singing, dancing, and acting) and his performance is MORE than tolerable if not pretty good.
And, I seriously doubt I want to take advice about REAL theater from someone with wicked in their screen name. It's hardly the most artistically pleasing show around even in 04.
I have NEVER met Cheyenne Jackson. I have never hung out with him in his dressing room, he did not tweet me, he never bought me a beverage, and he mostly certainly didn't tickle me. . .that is all.
My, my, aren't some people feeling bitchy? If Connick performed so badly and was a lousy lead-in to the show, why were the Tony Awards' TV ratings up 20%? I seriously doubt the increase can be attributed to viewers waiting to see Julia or Oprah present awards. Harry--consummate performer that he is--endured the pain of a ruptured disc in order to fulfill his commitment to perform. And a medicated Harry Connick is still well worth watching--as was clearly evident in the Pajama Game medley.
Thank you, Miss Doolittle *claps* Well said and true.

Doolittle, I am glad you enjoyed Connick's performance, but to say that his performance was responsible for the increase in ratings is a bit too much. Perhaps some of his fans who may not have watched tuned in to see him, but that does not mean his performance was good. I would bet that the Oprah connection had more to do with increased viewership. As for Harry being medicated, well, he looked like the same bored Harry that I have always seen, so perhaps the medication didn't really have that much to do with the quality of his performance.
The opening medley was clearly not in his usual singing key.
The Playbill insert at PJ Game notes that Harry injured his leg and is playing the part despite doctor's orders. Basically, noting that he's performing knowing people paid good money (in fact if you went through a broker, real good money) to see him in the male lead. I applaud him for that.
Since the Tonys obviously wanted him to open and they knew all about the injury (they had a lock on him already for the show segment), I'm sure he was obliging. In comparison to the newly released CD, all his vocals were disappointing that night, but mainly because his vocals on it are incredible! I thought his stage vocals in PJ Game were awesome.
Still, given the opening theme, sixty for sixty, why couldn't the presenters come out in singles or groups and sing a line? Then again... those songs?!!
Really, now--I don't know who you've been watching, but I've never seen Harry Connick look "bored" when performing. Even on NBC's "Shelter from the Storm" hurricane relief concert--after he got to New Orleans with food and water three days ahead of FEMA, he hadn't slept in days, and he must have been exhausted and dispirited--Connick still performed with the enthusiasm and verve for which he is justly famous.
