#1Has anyone had this problem?
Posted: 12/6/08 at 4:16pmI downloaded The Scarlet Pimpernel: Encores! off Amazon expecting to hear a different version of Falcon in the Dive, Where's the Girl, etc. and they sound EXACTLY the same as the OBC. I'm assuming its a screw up on Amazon's part but has anyone else had this problem?

its not a screw up
haha
it is the original broadway cast
this is what happened according to wikipedia
"Features the same cast as the OBC Album. This recording was created to reflect the changes in the production when the first version didn't live up to expectations on broadway. Only four songs were re-recorded for this album. Rex Smith recorded "Where's The Girl" and "Falcon In The Dive." While Rachel York sings "Storybook" and "I'll Forget You." Also included are two songs from the concept album, "You Are My Home" and "Only Love.""

Posted: 12/6/08 at 4:21pmYes, well Falcon in the Dive and Where's the Girl sound exactly like Terrence Mann. I knew that the majority of it is the OBC, but I'm not hearing ANY newly recorded tracks.

Oh, dude, I'm sorry that happened to you. Yeah, iTunes has the wrong CD. You should check out the one on Amazon instead-- it's got the new songs. I think it's a good idea to listen to the 30-second samples and read the comments before downloading. The comments on iTunes will tell you that there's a mistake.
But I feel bad for you! I almost downloaded it myself!

"Oh, dude, I'm sorry that happened to you. Yeah, iTunes has the wrong CD."
Remember when he said he did it off Amazon?
And yes, I suppose these companies when they did it 4/5/however many years later just mis-read it and just deleted some songs and put them in the right order. I happen to believe the only way to get it is through the CD itself, but I have only used these two downloading sights!
PS: Rex Smith was not that great of a Chauvelin! My least favourite as a matter of fact -- but I could see why you'd want Rachel York!

Oh boy am I dumb; I'm sorry. I know my friend BOUGHT the cast recording off of Amazon, to be shipped to her house, and it was the proper one. Maybe if you download it, the downloadable file is the same as the one from iTunes, but the actual CD itself is the right one.
I honestly did not like Rex Smith, either... but that's just my personal preference.

Weirdly, a lot of the people I've run into online preferred him to Terrence Mann. (Who is obviously my favourite Chauvelin-- see avatar.) I have no idea why, though. I think Rex Smith does a really weird accent sometimes... on his "These are the days, etc." part, he sounds like he's doing an Elvis/Bill Clinton impersonation. I thought William Paul Michaels was really good, though. And I normally love Marc Kudisch, and he did sound great, but he did some weird things with rhythm that kind of detract from the songs.
I heard Terrence Mann was really bad live, but at least in terms of recordings, I prefer him...

"I heard Terrence Mann was really bad live, but at least in terms of recordings, I prefer him... "
Most people thought Mann looked bored out of his mind whilst doing the show, while others thought he was trying to make a statement with the character. He also sounded nothing like he does on recording for some of the longer notes, most especially at the end of 'Where's The Girl (Reprise).' It was more of a "colldddd," rather than the "coooolllllldddddddddddddd" on the recording.
I just didn't like Rex Smith...too overdramatic at a lot of them and Mann was superior vocally in my opinion. I don't even have too many other reasons...but maybe that was the point: hate Chauvelin.
Marc Kudisch (and all French ensemble people for the most part) were using the French accent that previously only Marguerite was doing...which would leave one to be confused about Marc's vocals. However, he was terrific and way up there on my favourite Chauvelin's.
Lastly, William Paul Michals was amazing at this role. Perfect vocally (for the most part), and had the acting down pat: he was creepy, sketchy, shady, loving, yearning... everything you'd expect NAN KNIGHTON's Chauvelin to be!
