Posted: 1/4/07 at 2:26amI have seen LaChanze twice and Jeanette once. She was ok. She has a very pretty voice, but her performance is lackluster compared to LaCanze, in my opinion. She kept slipping in and out of her accent and forgot to maintain her "limp" in a few scenes. Her interpretation is very different though, so if you get the chance, it is worth seeing to get a different take on the character.

I saw Jeannette and I was impressed. She's coming into her own with the role and finding new things in the script and music. It must be nerve-wracking to replace a Tony Award winner, especially one as memorable as LaChanze, but she's doing it well.
EDIT: Oh, and since taking over the role of Celie, Jeannette has dropped the middle initial from her name.

January 28th I believe.
P.S. Who is the new Celie standby?
