I couldn't find another thread on this. Please tell me if there is one.
I just saw the movie and I'm not so sure how I felt about it. I loved the cast but I don't recall anything really special that made me love it either though. It ended in such a weird place. You didn't even get to see the quartet perform or the marriage...
It's like the movie that could've been. There were some really good parts though.
I suppose that's how the play was written too so, idk, am I being stupid or could it have more?

It was a long time ago, but as I remember, a change in the dynamic reveals a lot of cracks in the relationships in a long standing quartet. In the end, they seem to decide they need each other, and the music they make together, beyond their individual differences.

Posted: 7/18/14 at 10:01pmI thought it was a massive disappointment, not helped by false advertising making it look more like a comedy/drama when in actual fact there was very little comedy in it and it's a bit of a downer. No where near as strong as Marigold Hotel or even Song For Marion

Posted: 7/19/14 at 6:07pmI thought Quartet was terrific. It certainly earned a spot on my top ten film list that year. Of course, that's not so hard to do any more, movies being what they are. This is one of the very few films I have attended where the audience sat through the closing credit sequence (I loved the then and now shots) and applauded at the conclusion.
