You can Minnie Driver sing 'Learn To Be Lonely' at:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio2/shows/paige/

Elaine Paige's Radio 2 show had a world exclusive play on Sunday. It's a bit into the show so you'll have to start the show and then fast forward to the song.

Once the song had finished, Elaine said "Hmmm...short and sweet." She didn't sounds impressed and neither was I. Driver's voice was dull and it sounded like she was singing through a dose of tranquilisers. Really lacklustre. Just thought some of you might want to hear it.

I hope I'm not becoming an Elaine Paige radio show shill...sorry.

OK when you play it, hit fast forward 15 minutes 3 times and it should be at the AMOUR song which is right before the Phantom song.

I personally like it, though its very different style wise from the rest of the music from the show. Another question- Didnt Lloyd Webber write another song for the phantom to sing?(Something like "No one would listen" I think.) I was looking at the trackmlisting, and didn't see it.

I thought it was purdy...

Purdy dull...
Purdy not in keeping with the rest of the score...
Purdy desperate attempt for an Oscar...

It sounded like a reject from a Pia Zadora project.

PEACE.

I think "No One Would Listen" has been scrapped and they used the melody to make "Learn to be Lonely" because the two titles are the same number of syllables. As far as not keeping with the score, the rest of the score may actually sound like that. Remember how much EVITA was made more pop sounding than usual to please the popular audience? I think the song is beautiful and perfect for the ending credits music.

Can't find it. When I play the show it starts with the second part. 15 minutes into it it's the spotlight of les miz

Is it the end credits music? Because if it is, that's OK. No one ever really pays attention to those, it's more like music to accompany crushing popcorn crumbs off your shirt. And to check you didn't drop your keys. And to begin discussing the film with your friends. And to...yeah, so I probably won't be paying much attention to Ms Driver's vocal stylings. Unless there's outtakes! Can you imagine?

I tend to agree with SueleenGay, "Purdy dull...
Purdy not in keeping with the rest of the score...
Purdy desperate attempt for an Oscar...

Although it's not all that bad a little song. I believe that it was originally intended to appear within the show, but someone or several someones decided to use it as a "throwaway" song after the show is over.

Most people don't pay much attention to the credits as they get ready to leave the theater, but some do (I for one), and I would rather have something more in keeping with the rest of the score.

Yeah, you're thinking of in EVITA when the new "Oscar" song was in the actual movie as part of the story.

You need to click "forward 15 minutes" a total of 3 times to get to the song before it. It's supposed to say something like "act two" when you first start it.
