Hedwig Inspiration.....

I just finished watching HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH and wanted to see how this was made, so I watched the "making of" featurette, and a name was mentioned....Lou Reed. They said that they molded the music of HEDWIG after this man. Well, I happened to download a few of his songs, and all I have to say is, THEY AREN'T KIDDING. The music is eerily similar and even thr voicals of Lou Reed and John Cameron Mitchell are almost identical. By the way, if you haven't heard the music to HEDWIG, all I have to say to you is RUN, RUN AND BUY IT OR YOU WILL BURN FOR ETERNITY. Thank you.

Darlin', how cool it is that the film has turned you onto the magic that is Lou...he is a legend, and I am amazed some of the youngsters haven't heard of him.

Check Out:
"Transformer"
"Rock and Roll Animal"
"The Blue Mask"
"Magic & Loss"
"New York" Classics one and all...

And his seminal work with the Velvet Underground (sometime singer, the German model Nico was also a partial inspiration for Hedwig--see the documentary "Nico Icon"):
"The Velvet Underground and Nico" (the banana album, the album that started punk!)
"Loaded"

Also, look at Patti Smith's early stuff, I think you'll see alot of Hedwig there, especially "Horses" and "Easter" (the song "Rock and Roll n*" could very easily have come off the Hedwig soundtrack)
Both Nico and Patti are name-dropped (along with Yoko, Aretha, and Nona (Hendryx)) in Hedwig's "Midnight Radio"
