Hello, Dolly! - Back Mezzanine or Front Balcony?

Looking into tickets for Bernadette in Dolly, and with plenty of seats left on my date, I was wondering the preference between back mezzanine and front balcony.

They are going for about the same price, but don't know how high the balcony is, and if sitting in the back of the lower mezzanine level would be more effective.

Thanks.

Front of the balcony, no question. Avoid the rear mezzanine at the Shubert at all costs. Enjoy the show!

Just saw hello Dolly from front row mezzanine seat A4... The most amazing view!

checked out the back of the mezzanine and it was so obstructed it was not funny you would miss all the action taking place on the upper levels which would be very disappointing. Even the back of the Orchestra seems to cut off a lot of the upper level action. Therefore front mezzanine or front balcony is the way to go!

By the way I'm curious to know if anybody knows what Bette is actually eating when she's filling her mouth full of presumed dumplings in the second act.I don't suppose they are  marshmallows ?

There was a thread on here a little while ago that asked the same thing, I can recall. I think they use like edible paper or some other material so that Bette can spit it into her napkin when she's done.

I'm not sure about the balcony but this is what I'll say about the back mezzanine. It's not horrible. You see most of the show. In the set for Horace's store, you will miss it when they go "upstairs" to the second level but nothing pivotal happens there. You also miss Bette's entrance in the red dress but she doesn't pause there for too long. Those are the major things I can think of. But I will say if suspension of disbelief is a problem for you, avoid the back mezzanine because you're very conscious you're watching a show because you're always so aware of the overhang.

Saw the show for the Balcony Row A and thought it was a fantastic view.  It's a great view of the stage and I was able to see facial expressions clearly

Forgot to say that the seat next to me front mezzanine A2 has a bar right in front of it therefore partially obstructing the view for the person next to me. They should remove this bar as it is annoying and the person had to lean forward the whole show to see the stage entirely. This of course affected the person behind her who also had to lean forward due to the person in front leaning forward....
