I know I've left this very late but will be in NYC and DC (visiting from London) for 11 days from 2nd Sept. I usually just get tickets from TKTS in person. Does anyone have advice or tips? Discounts/ticket sites etc.
On my wish list are Color Purple, Waitress, The Humans, Fiddler, Something Rotten, Fun Home, Cagney but am open to recommendations.
I realise some of the shows will be impossible to get.
Thanks in advance.

None of those will be impossible. Fun Home closes on the 10th and will get increasingly more difficult as that day approaches, so I'd get that knocked off as early as possible. Everything else has discounted tickets available through broadwayabox.com, the TodayTix app, etc. You should be fine. Enjoy!

I would definitely recommend seeing Come From Away while its playing at the ford's theatre in DC

It's broadwaybox.com, not broadwayabox...

Your visit overlaps with Broadway Week [9/5-9/18] and Off-Broadway's 20at20 [9/5-9/25].
If you have one other person to go with, you can take advantage of Broadway Week 2-for-1 deal: http://www.nycgo.com/broadway-week
For 20at20, you can buy $20 rush tickets 20 minutes before the show: http://20at20.com/welcome/
I always just do a simple Google search for discount ticket codes, which you can use at the box office to save on online fees. If you download the TKTS app you can check what's usually available at the booth before you go.
