I need some advice for a basic makeup kit. What brands are good? What products would I need for a basic face? Also are there any good websites that have templates for character faces? Maybe some tips for not sweating through your makeup?
Also - I'm half Asian are there any ideas for ways to make eyes look "less Asian". (I'm thinking draw attention to the middle and lighten the edges of the eyes).
I use Ben Nye...he makes a great kit...i bought mine at a local costume store. The kit comes with your shadow and highlight palette, rouge for cheeks and lip...base foundation...powder to keep the stuff on your face...and some applicators...I've always found it to be very dependable...it also includes pictures that will help you with application techniques.
I use Ben Nye as well. I usually use my own foundation underneath and put the Ben Nye over it. For everything else (lipstick, eyeliner, mascara, blush, eyeshadow, etc.), I use cheap drugstore makeup because well, it's cheaper!

You really can't beat Ben Nye for stage makeup. Look for a basic kit that includes foundation, powder, a palette (includes highlight, shadow, cream blush and lip color), an eye pencil, brush and powder puff. It's around $16 and can last a while if you take good care of it.

if you have skin that's really prone to reactions, i suggest MAC. #1 - it's amazing. #2 - most people don't really react to it. it's what i use for stage and for everyday wear (no sillies, i don't the same makeup!)
and i second corine. go to sephora! woohoo!

Try Three Custom Color Specialists. They do theatre work and have designed for many shows but can help anyone!

As previously stated, Ben Nye has a specific make-up kit for Asian Americans (Caucasian, African Americans too). You could probably look on their website if you are looking for great theatrical stage make-up.

AS with most everyone else, I'd go with Ben Nye. I know you can order a catalog off of their website, but thats about it at the moment. (Its still in development, I guess.) Try googling "stage makeup" or look at your local theatrical costume store.

Ben Nye....they have great customer service so if you have questions contact them via the website.
Yeah I'm pretty much all for Ben Nye.
But as others have said, Sephora and MAC are also both very good choices.
