Help with show choice?

We're coming into New York for just two days this weekend, and I've read as much as I can and I'm having a tough time finding something were excited about seeing?

We love big sets, big numbers, or funny. We've never really got the more "artsy" shows. I.e. I don't think The Band's Visit is going to be for us from what I've read.

Some of our favorites in the past:

Kinky Boots, Newsies, Wicked, Matilda, Mary Poppins

Some that were well reviewed but we didn't really get it?

Warhorse, Color Purple, Once, Aladdin, Lion King

Shows that no one seemed to like but we really enjoyed:

Something Rotten, Priscilla Queen of the Desert, Mystery of Edwin Drood

We're looking for something easy to Rush that wouldn't cost us a fortune, so I've got Waitress (we actually really like Katherine McPhee from the Smash days), Anastasia and that's about it? Anything you guys can think of based off of my reviews above that we might enjoy?

Make the effort to see Once On This Island. I have no idea about availability, sorry.

Looks like there might be an in person lottery that we could shoot for. I definitely checked this one out, looks like it could be fun. Thanks for the recommendation Armie!

Hello, Dolly!, for sure. I believe they're still doing rush, which would be $47 partial-view seats, but you can also use the discount on telechargeoffers.com, which has seats starting at $49 for the front balcony. If you spend a little more, though, it will probably be on TKTS this weekend, and your seats will be much better.

Spongebob, School of Rock, or Hello, Dolly!

A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.

Once on this Island, Mean Girls or Spongebob based on your previous choices.

Personally I would avoid Dolly unless you are familiar with or a fan of the material. But the staging is great if that's your thing, but then so is Spongebob's and Islands.

Mean Girls will be your best bet, IMO. It fits everything you've described. Except for the pricing thing, and you can only rush on Wednesdays (I think?), which is a pain.

Thanks everyone! I didn't have either Mean Girls or Once on this Island on the radar so this was super helpful. Will definitely try for Mean Girls, and Once on this Island on lotto. With a fall back plan of Waitress and School of Rock.

Has anyone tried the Once on this Island lotto? It appears to be a traditional in person?
