Hi! My friend and I are going to NYC from June 12-15. We are interested in seeing Fun Home and Something Rotten for sure, and are open to other shows. Since it is about a week after the Tony Awards, should we buy tickets for these shows in advance? Or should we try waiting until we get there? I'm guessing they won't be on TKTS then? Do they TKTS booths vary with their selection? For other shows, we are looking at TDF. How early are the tickets released on that site? I know right now it is only up to May 24. Lastly, any absolute must do's in NYC (outside of major touristy things)? Any help or advice would be much appreciated. Thank you so much!
Ticket prices are dynamic for many shows, and as the Tonys approach, ticket prices for some shows may go up. One of those 2 musicals you mention is probably going to win the Tony for best musical so I would definitely buy my tickets for these two shows as soon as possible.
Both shows have discounts on broadwaybox.com .... Fun Home is currently through June 14, and Something Rotten through May 24 but that will probably get extended soon. So buy Fun Home with the Broadwaybox discount now and wait on Something Rotten and keep rechecking until they extend the discount to fit your dates.
For a great pre-show dinner go to Carmine's on 44th street.

Thank you so much for your help, I really appreciate it! I just bought tickets for Fun Home through tix4students.com. They are in the back, so I hope the tickets are ok! I'll keep looking for Something Rotten. Do you by any chance know the balcony seats are for that show (balcony are the seats offered through tix4students.com). Thank you again!
The Circle In The Square where Fun Home is playing is a wonderful small theatre and it seems from peoples' comments on here that even the worst seat in the last row in the corner has a good view. So you were smart to get discount tickets now. If it wins the Tony for best musical the prices will go up and/or it will routinely sell out.
I have never sat in the Balcony at the St. James Theatre, I have sat in the orchestra and all I remember was that the stage was high for the shows I have seen there, so the first 3-4 rows are not the best. You should do a search of the St. James Theatre on this board and a bunch of comments will probably pop up describing the balcony. From what I remember reading, it is a pretty big theatre and the view from the balcony is not great, but please do a search and find out from people who know.
I have seen most of what is on Broadway now, and here are some other great shows you should consider, in my opinion, in order with my favorite listed first: Curious Incident, Gentleman's Guide, Matilda, Hand To God, The King and I, Finding Neverland, Les Mis, On The 20th Century, and of course Hedwig (I have seen each of the Hedwigs except the current one Darren Criss, so I can't comment on him).
Have fun on your trip, with Something Rotten and Fun Home you have picked two wonderful shows, so you are off to a fantastic start!

Great, thank you so much again for your advice! It has been super helpful! I will definitely look around at opinions of the balcony, as well as those other shows you've suggested!
Since you are students I assume you qualify for HipTix (ages 18 to 35) and would highly recommend On The 20th Century. With HipTix you can get $25 tix in advance and it's well worth it. King and I is also beautiful and you mighy still be able to get LincTix for that.

Thank you for the suggestion! I just checked and I think the HipTix are sold out for the times we are going to be there. For Something Rotten, do you by any chance know where and the cost of the TKTS tickets have been recently? Is it better to do TKTS or try to rush? Or perhaps lottery or TodayTix? I know the Tix4Students tickets are located in the balcony, and another thread mentioned that it was really far from the stage? Thank you again!
