I'm going to see "PIPPIN" in Sag Harbor, Long Island this weekend and I need names of nearby hotels ASAP. Any and all suggestions would be extremely helpful, as this is last minute. Thanks guys!

We stayed at the Baron's Cove Inn www.baronscove.com when we went to Bay Street last year. Really nice view of the bay from the deck and a short walk to the theatre and the downtown area.

Posted: 9/2/05 at 11:30pmI saw the show last weekend and it was the WORST thing i've ever seen. Fosse must be rolling over 100 times from this crap. Nothing was good about it.

Posted: 9/3/05 at 11:57amMy partner and I saw Pippin last weekend and we both loved it. Somehow I had never seen it before so it was all new to me. I thought the book was surprisingly relevant to today's administration's invasion of Iraq. I thought the score was charming and the performances were excellent. As for hotels, every one we checked with wanted a 3-night minimum so, since we had rented a car anyway, we stayed at the Hyatt Hauppauge which was about a 70-minute drive to Sag Harbor. It wasn't ideal but at least we had a shorter drive after the show and dinner instead of going all the way back to the city.

Posted: 9/3/05 at 12:51pm"pippin" to me is one of THE BEST shows ever written but, to have seen many a production done right and magical and then witness Sag Harbors distruction of the show, it made me really upset. They modernized the production to street clothing, an 8 person cast? and horrible stage movement. The cast had no chemistry at all with one another.. there was no color, no magic. BD Wong was awful awful awful. His voice kept on cracking everytime he tried to grasp a high note. Stephanie Pope tore the role of Frustrada to pieces. She took what is supposed to be a cute and light hearted song in "Spread A Little Sunshine" and made it into a Chicago number.. everytime she said "Spread A little Sunshine" She lifted her dress to show the audience her crotch. Now, these performers are ALL very talented people in other things but, the way they were directed made them seem like they were stuck in an uncomfortable Red White and Blaine production of the show. Again this is one of my favorite shows so I am going to be a critic

Posted: 9/3/05 at 2:49pmI dumped my tickets to Pippin when Ziemba and York dropped out, and it looks like that was a smart move. I haven't heard ONE good review yet.

Wanna be - Have fun in Sag Harbor, and we'll expect a full review when you get back! : ) (Pippin is one of my favorite shows).
Not to take the focus of the thread off the hotels, but since we're discussing direction, and the recent production...
I don't think ANYTHING about Pippin is as lighthearted as it seems on the surface. It is actually quite a dark little tale, wrapped up in a nice song and dance spectacle package - which adds even more to the darkness of it all. It's brilliant....my favorite Schwartz. One of my favorite Fosses. I always like to think of Fastrada as a bit of a floozy too...but there needs to be a subtley to the portrayal. The "dress" thing seems a little, what's the word - "obvious?" I can see why that would invoke a little eye roll.
Oh for a revival...
