Saw it at Mufti Sunday Eve. performance- a lot of fun, great casting. I have seen multi million $$$ shows on Broadway that didnt have the appeal of this charming show. If they had the time to choreograph and budget for some sets and costumes, this would be a first rate show. I hope there is a life after this production...doubtful with the current high costs. Congrats.
Yes, HENRY, SWEET HENRY is a CHARMING show that never did find its place on Broadway--one possibility that it opened during the HAIR era [1967.]
But Robert Merrill score is good, Don Ameche did a wonderful job as Henry Orient, plus it had MICHAEL BENNETT choreography! :)
I did not see current production, but original did drag a bit during the end and "resolved" plot somewhat quickly and artifically.
My favorite Clive Barnes review is of HENRY, SWEET HENRY [original Broadway production, 1967) "I Knew This Show Was I Boe When I Heard the Overture."]
Wow, Clive! Where do you get YOUR degree in fortune-telling? :)

My greatest interest in seeing this show would have been if they had attempted to re-create the then 24 year old Michael Bennett's original Tony-nominated choreography (perhaps Bob Avian or Baayork Lee or Prisclla Lopez, who all were in the chorus, remember some of it). Since they didn't, I decided to pass on it. Glad the score holds up, though.
And those Eddie Sauter orchestrations for Henry, Sweet Henry really swing!
Margo,
ALL three dancers you mentioned were in the chorus.

Isn't that what I said?
I saw it & found it enjoyable. Not great but entertaining. Isn't that what shows are supposed to do after all ?
Sorry, Margo, read your post too fast.
I thought it said you THOUGHT all three were dancers in show.
I guess it comes from playing Hysterium in FORUM too many times.
Just remember-"I'm Calm" :)
