I went to see Henry and Mudge this weekend at the Lucille Lortel Theatre.
It was absolutely adorable! I know I read the books as a kid, but didn't remember much about them. This production was very cute, and it's great that such wonderful Broadway talent is performing the material.
Todd Buonopane as Mudge was hysterical and got lots of laughs, but he was also able to get a few awwws in those touching moments. Seeing him dressed as a dog was quite entertaining! Especially as a dog in a dress. Boy, I wish I had been allowed to take pictures.
Joseph Morales as Henry was also great, he and Todd worked very well together. He was having mic problems though, so it was hard to hear him for a lot of the show.
Jen Cody as the cousin and best friend Annie was so tiny! Her pink party dress with all the ruffles and running around acting like a little kid was just hilarious. Her comic timing and delivery is so perfect!
Patrick Boll and Joan Hess were good as the parents, nothing too stand out because their roles were smaller.
The songs are quite clever, the lyrics are fun and the music is catchy and upbeat. The set was simple, but it didn't need more.
It's only an hour long, and the kids in the audience were better behaved than at any of the other kid shows I've been to. Though my friends and I may have been the only people in attendance without kids, we all really enjoyed the show and were really glad we went to go see it.
It only has 1 week left, through Jan 20th, so be sure to check it out!
Best of luck to everyone involved!
This show was very cute and although it is a kids show I completely got a kick out of it!
Jen Cody made me laugh so hard as Annie! She really is terribly good at pretending to be a kid. It's quite amazing. and like Liotte said her comedic timing is just impecable.
Todd was wonderful as Mudge. He was hilarious as usual and had me rolling at times!
anyway, fun show and if you get the chance to see it, take it!
